If you’re waiting for the arrival of Gemini on Google TVs, we have good news – the upgrade has unexpectedly turned up on Sony Bravia devices.
Google has promised to replace the Assistant feature with the much more advanced Gemini for some time now, but no specific date had been announced, aside from reassurance that the upgrade will arrive in 2025. In early September, it arrived on the TCL QM9K TVs – TCL’s flagship mini-LED TVs. Google also confirmed to TechRadar that Gemini would also launch on TCL’s QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models, as well as the 2025 Hisense U8, U7, and UX models.
The list of upgraded devices also included Google TV Streamer and Walmart Onn 4K Pro streaming box.
However, Google didn’t highlight Sony on its list, so the Gemini icon came as a big surprise to owners of Bravia TVs. According to a screenshot posted on Reddit, Gemini appeared after a Sony Bravia TV owner updated the Google TV Home app from the Play Store.
The Gemini upgrade improves communication on voice commands. The primary goal is to support the searching process on the TV, but users can also ask questions on other topics, such as the most important daily news.
Users also have the option to personalise the assistant’s voice, with 10 options available each named after flowers such as Oxalis, Fern and Croton – the same group available on Google’s Nest smart speakers. By making this change, Google is standardising the user experience across its smart home portfolio.
The arrival of Gemini on a Sony Bravia TV suggests that a wider rollout could soon occur on a larger scale.
