A $4.2 million estate — a ‘piece of Denver’s past’ — has hit market in Washington Park neighborhood

A home in Denver’s Washington Park neighborhood has hit the market for $4.2 million on land that was once part of former Colorado Gov. John Evans’ private estate.

Built in 1972 and at 2111 E. Alameda Ave., the two-story home features six bedrooms and six bathrooms, spanning over 6,300 square feet.

Retired aerospace engineer Robert Hauser purchased the property in September 2010, after finding it on Zillow during a corporate relocation to Denver.

“I bought the neighborhood, not the house,” Hauser said as he recalled being initially drawn by the neighborhood’s Bel-Air feel, which brought back fond memories of his childhood vacations out in California.

He said the house was great, but since it was originally built more than five decades ago, the layout was made up of segmented hallways that made it almost confusing to navigate.

As a result, Hauser decided to open up the space and create an open-air feel. Then over the years, the property underwent a complete “down to the studs” renovation, which included excavating the backyard, installing a pool and reconfiguring the first floor.
