After Thomas Frank was appointed as Tottenham Hotspur manager in the summer window, there was a real expectation that the Dane would be the man to take the club to the next level.

His experience of overperforming at Brentford made him an excellent candidate for the role in North London, but it’s safe to say his tenure to date has been a huge failure.

The 52-year-old has only been able to amass a total of 29 points in the Premier League to date, subsequently sitting just six points clear of the relegation zone.

Thomas Frank manager of Tottenham Hotspur applauds the fans

The Lilywhites have now only won two of their last 11 league games, with their winless run now extending to eight matches after losing 2-0 to Manchester United on Saturday.

One player has no doubt contributed to the recent demise in North London over recent weeks, with the manager certainly needing to reevaluate his current position in the squad.

Cristian Romero’s disciplinary issues at Spurs

Amid the recent struggles at Spurs, Frank has continued to show faith in centre-back Cristian Romero to try and turn his tenure around in North London.

The Argentine, who is the club’s captain, has featured in 21 league games so far to date, but is now set to miss the next four after his latest disciplinary issue.

During the defeat at Old Trafford, the 27-year-old was handed his marching orders following a late and reckless challenge on Manchester United midfielder Casemiro.

It’s the second time in the league this season the defender has been sent off, after previously being dismissed for a second yellow against Liverpool, following a kick out on Ibrahima Konate.

As a result, Frank’s men had to play over an hour with ten men, which has no doubt ramped up pressure on the manager’s shoulders – with the fans now starting to get restless.

Spurs red card record Romero

Since his move in the summer of 2021, the defender has now picked up six red cards – the most of any player in the division in that time – subsequently showcasing his disciplinary issues.

Worse than Romero: Spurs star must leave the club

As seen by Spurs’ current league standing, the side have once again failed to deliver in England’s top-flight, with the similarities to last season there for all to see.

Thomas Frank

The Lilywhites ended the previous campaign in a measly 17th place, just one position above the drop zone, which ultimately led to Ange Postecoglou losing his job in North London.

As for the Dane, he’s been unable to prevent such struggles in the role, with the latest run of form in the division no doubt worrying fans about the prospect of a relegation battle.

Romero’s constant disciplinary issues have no doubt contributed to the recent decline in form, but injuries have also played their part, with countless senior players currently unavailable.

Pedro Porro has missed the last three matches in all competitions with a hamstring issue, but his form before his recent setback left much to be desired amongst the fanbase.

The Spaniard, who joined the club for £40m back in the summer of 2023, has been known to provide the goods in attacking areas, despite operating in a defensive role.

He’s often been tasked with providing assists for those around him, but his tally of just two assists in 23 league outings demonstrates his own struggles during the current campaign.

The 26-year-old has only been able to complete 74% of the passes he’s attempted this season, ranking him in the bottom 9% of all places in the league, which has no doubt contributed to his demise.

However, without the ball, he’s been just as dismal in 2025/26, subsequently winning just 1.1 tackles per 90, whilst being dribbled past more than 80% of players in the division to date.

Porro has also made just 0.7 interceptions per 90 this campaign, winning most 44% of the duels he’s entered to date, with the right-hand side of the Spurs side starting to become a huge concern.

His attacking quality has made him a huge asset over recent years, but as seen with his aforementioned figures, he’s massively struggled to impress in such a regard.

As a result, he’s undoubtedly fallen way below his standards, with the hierarchy desperately needing to make new additions in the right-back area a priority.

Like Romero, Porro has struggled to impress this season, which no doubt has put his long-term future in North London at risk – with the club desperately needing players to get them out of the current mess.

The Spaniard is certainly a luxury player who can help in the attacking department, but his impact has been too inconsistent, which needs to see the club move him on in the near future.
