Motion Twin of Dead Cells fame announced a new project at The Game Awards 2023 – Windblown, a 3D action roguelike with a co-op component. The announcement trailer emphasized the game’s colorful style, but a new two-minute video is available highlighting the gameplay. Check it out below.
Windblown sees players battling against the Vortex and its Sentinels threatening the sky islands where they reside. Defeating bosses and locating hidden treasure chests confers new weapons, and players can equip two at a time.
Alterattacks can “unleash the secret move of one weapon by using the other throughout an encounter”, and Crystallize attacks serve as finishers. The latter also refills the player’s energy and increases rewards. Executing simultaneous Crystallize attacks with other players also increases their damage.
You can also collect Trinkets with unique abilities like creating poison clouds or bombs; Gifts for passive bonuses, including firing arrows on weapon hits or healing after slaying an enemy; and Fish, which can pull off feats like swallowing enemies (and grant more rewards when hit).
Windblown enters early access this year for PC via Steam. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months, especially when the next closed playtest rolls around.
