Will My Sky Q Box Still Work?

The streaming era is officially beginning to take over traditional TV, as Sky is discontinuing new sales of the Sky Q box on its website. The updated page was first spotted on 10 December 2025.

There seems to be a push to move new customers towards the other products Sky offer: Sky Glass, Sky Glass Air and Sky Stream.

However, this change may raise some alarm bells if you’re an existing Sky Q customer. Does it mean that support for the product will be phased out? We’ve done some sleuthing and have found out everything we know so far.

Is my Sky Q box still supported?

According to the Sky forum page, you shouldn’t worry about losing support for your existing Sky Q box just yet.

The following quote from a Sky Community Manager is currently available, written on 12 December 2025:

“I can confirm Sky Q is no longer available to buy online, however I can reassure you that Sky Q is still going strong with no changes to how existing customers can manage their package online or through the My Sky App.”

We have also contacted the Sky press office to see if there’s any more information about this change.

So, in short, updates and software support for Sky Q should continue as normal – it’s just that new customers will be encouraged to sign up for the internet-based products of Sky, rather than for the traditional set-top box.

I’m a new customer – can I still sign up for Sky Q?

While new purchases of Sky Q have been removed from the official website, the same forum post also confirmed the following:

“Customers can still call us if they’d like to order Sky Q, or visit one of our retail stores.”

So, if you’re willing to phone Sky or go to a shop in person, you can still get Sky Q.

The main reason you may wish to opt for Sky Q over Glass or Stream is because you get local, permanent recordings, as well as no lag for live sports as content is delivered over a dish rather than via the internet. The box can also record multiple shows at one time.

That said, Sky Stream and Glass require no dish, and the Stream puck is extremely small and easy to set up. It’s also traditionally cheaper, with the option to go for flexible 30-day contracts if you’re unsure about committing.

Meanwhile, Glass is an all-in-one TV set-up, so ideal if you’re looking to upgrade your entire entertainment system.
