Millions of users around the world found themselves unable to send or receive messages on WhatsApp and Messenger this Friday, with many also struggling to make voice and video calls.
According to posts on X (formerly Twitter) and the outage-tracking website DownDetector, the disruption appears to be widespread, affecting both mobile and desktop versions of the apps.
Mobile and desktop outage: WhatsApp and Messenger disrupted
From the web interface to the smartphone app, both of Meta’s messaging services are largely inaccessible, leaving users unable to communicate with friends, family, or colleagues. Some have also reported issues logging in altogether. This outage follows a similar incident on 11 December 2024, when Meta acknowledged technical problems impacting its platforms.
Meta silent on outage: No immediate response
At present, Meta has yet to provide any official comment on the situation. In the meantime, frustrated users continue to share their experiences online, highlighting how reliant many have become on these platforms for everyday communication. With no clear timeframe for resolution, affected users can only wait and hope that normal service will resume soon.
