When conversational AI was released, many people thought that content creation will never be the same — and they were right.
The number of companies and websites that use some form of AI writing is growing by the minute, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, the latest Google Core Updates even say that they’re not outright shadowbanning AI content from search results, but only the ones that provide no value and are just fluff.
So, how do we make sure that we’re not writing “useless” content with ChatGPT and other LLMs? The answer is simple: we don’t.
Instead, we make them help us write. That process can take on many forms, but I’ve always been a big fan of using AI paraphrasing tools to, well, paraphrase what I’ve written. SurferSEO is one of the best in the market for that.
But what happens when you pit it against a different type of paraphrasing tool? One that can bypass detection tools? Let’s find out in this head-to-head comparison of SurferSEO and Undetectable AI’s paraphrasers.
What is Undetectable AI?
If you’re looking for the best AI humanizer in the market, you’ve found it. Undetectable AI is a paraphrasing tool that can turn any text into something unrecognizable by AI detection tools. This is done through a careful rearrangement of the original text, removal of common AI telltale signs, and addition of intentional errors.
We compared Undetectable AI against other AI bypassing tools and tested it against the most popular AI detectors today and it’s safe to say that it definitely works.
You can read more about Undetectable AI in our full review found here. We’ve also taken the time to review their Stealth Writer and Human Typer, so make sure to check them both out.
What is SurferSEO?
SurferSEO is different from Undetectable AI. It’s a platform designed to help improve website content for search engine optimization. It uses data-driven analysis to optimize web pages so you could rank higher in search engine results.
Some of its key features include:
- Content Editor: Offers real-time suggestions for improving content based on top-ranking pages for targeted keywords.
- SERP Analyzer: Examines search engine results pages (SERPs) to identify common elements among high-ranking pages.
- Keyword Research: Helps find relevant keywords and phrases to target in content.
- Content Planner: Assists in creating content strategies based on keyword clusters.
- Audit Tool: Analyzes existing pages and provides recommendations for improvement.
But we’re not really here to talk about SurferSEO’s complete suite of tools. Instead, we’re going to focus on only one…
SurferSEO Paraphrasing Tool
And that’s their paraphrasing tool. Unlike Undetectable AI (whose paraphrasing focuses on avoiding detection), SurferSEO’s paraphraser aims to make your input more readable and engaging. This is a great tool if you’re updating some of your old content.
It also doesn’t have the output customization features of Undetectable AI, so if you need something that aligns more with a specific readability or purpose, you might want to look for alternatives.
Which Makes More Readable Text?
Since SurferSEO focuses more on readability, we can expect their output to be more coherent than Undetectable AI, especially since the latter even adds mistakes to have lower AI likelihood scores from detectors. But, for your reference, here’s three versions of the same essay generated by ChatGPT:
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee has had a profound cultural impact since its publication in 1960. The novel addresses deeply rooted issues of racial injustice, inequality, and moral integrity in the American South. Through the character of Atticus Finch, it highlights the importance of empathy, courage, and standing up for what is right, even when facing societal opposition. Its exploration of racism remains relevant, resonating with civil rights movements and sparking conversations about justice. The novel’s portrayal of innocence, as seen through Scout’s eyes, encourages readers to confront prejudice and aspire to a more just society. |
Harper Lees novel “To Kill a Mockinbird ” released in 1960 has made a lasting impact, on our culture by addressing the issues of injustice and moral values in the Southern United States through characters such, as Atticus Finch who exemplify empathy and courage in the face of adversity. The way the novel depicts innocence through Scouts perspective urges people to face prejudice and strive for a society. |
Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, which was released in 1960, has had a significant cultural influence. The American South’s long-standing problems with racial injustice, inequality, and moral integrity are all touched upon in the book. It emphasizes the value of empathy, bravery, and sticking up for what is right—even in the face of social backlash—through the figure of Atticus Finch. Its examination of racism is still timely, striking a chord with civil rights organizations and igniting debates about fairness and cruelty. Through Scout’s perspective, the tale presents innocence in a way that challenges prejudice and inspires readers to work toward a more equitable society. |
As expected, SurferSEO is way better in grammar, spelling, and readability. It maintains a smooth flow, with well-constructed sentences that capture the essence of the original text. The punctuation is on point, and there are no spelling errors.
Undetectable AI isn’t as good. There are some spelling mistakes, like “Mockinbird” instead of “Mockingbird”. The punctuation is a bit off, with unnecessary commas breaking up the flow. The sentence structure is also less refined, which impacts readability. However, it’s not all bad — it still manages to convey the core message, just in a less elegant manner.
It’s also worth noting that, while SurferSEO writes more readable text, it’s also somewhat slow. It took five whole minutes before it returned an output. At multiple points, I refreshed the page hoping that it’s only glitching, but it’s definitely not. I’m hoping that this is changed when the paraphraser goes out of beta.

The Bottom Line
This was an interesting battle, to say the least.
To be honest, I was fully expecting SurferSEO to have a higher AI likelihood score average considering that I used their free paraphrasing tool, and not their humanizer. But evidently, this was already enough.
Yes, Undetectable AI is still far better at avoiding AI detection, but SurferSEO provides readable text while doing the same thing. It’s really a testament to how far AI humanizing has come since it’s proof that you don’t really need to add intentional errors to have text that will bypass detection tools.
Considering the results, I’m going to give this win to SurferSEO by a hair. That said, both these tools are still amazing, so here’s my final judgment: if you’re looking for a paraphraser, go for SurferSEO, but if you’re looking for a humanizer, then Undetectable AI is your best bet.
