Details are still coming to light at this time on a plane crash at the Arizona Marana Regional Airport, just outside Tuscon.
It has been confirmed by police on the scene that two people have died in the crash.
Current reports say that two planes flew into each other at the airport and that both planes were occupied during the incident which the Marana Police Department are calling an “aircraft collision”. Reports have also mentioned that the aircrafts were “small” aircrafts as opposed to commercial jets.
Arizona plane crash raises questions about aviation security
The plane crash at the regional airport has been attended by police and emergency services. The Marana Police Department have yet to confirm how the crash happened or the number of passengers onboard. There are photos on social media of smoke coming from the direction of the airport. The National Aviation Authority and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate further.
Although these tragedies have a very real human cost, there are questions being raised about aviation security. This discussion has become particularly prevalent in the wake of Trump’s firing of hundreds of air traffic controllers after a deadly crash that cost 67 lives in Washington DC, when a commercial jet collided with an Army helicopter on January 29.
Other recent fatal flights include the crash of a medical transport plane in Philadelphia killing six people on board and one on the ground on January 31 and the Alaskan Bering Air plane crash earlier this month, where 10 people were killed when they crashed into the Alaskan tundra. And on Monday, February 17, 21 people were injured when a Delta Airlines plane crashed and landed upside down in Toronto.
