President Donald Trump announced today, September 2, that the headquarters of U.S. Space Command will be relocated from Colorado Springs to Huntsville, Alabama.
The Oval Office appearance, alongside Vice President JD Vance and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, marked his first public event in about a week.
False reports that Trump had passed away went viral on social media this week. Across several platforms, hashtags including #TrumpIsDead and #WhereIsTrump gained popularity, confusing users and attracting media attention. Trump slammed the “so fake” news media over speculation about his health, but, he did appear to have a bruised hand, suggesting perhaps an IV drip had been placed there recently.
When referring to the Space Command move, Trump said, “Seven years in the making,” adding that the change will bring “thousands of jobs” to Alabama’s so-called “Rocket City.”
Why Alabama won Space Command
Trump credited Alabama’s lawmakers for lobbying strongly, saying, “They fought harder for it than anybody else … that’s all they wanted to talk about.” He also suggested that Colorado’s system of universal mail ballots played a part in the decision, “That played a big factor,” Trump said.
Defence Secretary Hegseth praised the move, warning, “Whoever controls the skies will control the future of warfare.” Vice President Vance called Huntsville “exactly the right place” and a “visionary move.”
Trump addresses tariffs
The relocation was not the only announcement. Trump also vowed to appeal a federal court ruling that struck down parts of his global tariffs. “Without the tariffs, this country is in serious, serious trouble,” he told reporters, promising to seek an “expedited ruling” from the Supreme Court.
Military strike on Venezuelan drug boat
In a separate revelation, Trump said the U.S. military had “literally shot out a boat, a drug-carrying boat, lotta drugs on that boat” from Venezuela.
National Guard deployment to Chicago
The president also pledged to send the National Guard into Chicago to tackle violent crime and illegal immigration, though he gave no timeline. “We’re going in. I didn’t say when, but we’re going in,” Trump said, describing the city as a “hellhole.”
AI-generated White House video?
Trump was questioned by Pete Doocy of Fox News regarding the video that went viral online over the weekend showing someone flinging a bag out of an upstairs window of the White House. Trump insisted that the film was produced by AI, pointing out that the windows in question are bulletproof and heavily armoured, making them difficult to open.
Trump’s flurry of announcements highlights his aggressive stance on defence, trade, and law enforcement.
