Trump Jr touches down in Greenland after dad pushes US claim on the island

In a move that’s raising eyebrows from Nuuk to Copenhagen, Donald Trump Jr has arrived in Greenland, barely two weeks after his father reignited the fiery debate over whether the US should control the autonomous Danish territory.
Before landing in Greenland’s capital, Trump Jr played it cool, telling reporters he was simply on a “personal day-trip” to chat with locals – no official meetings on the cards. But with his father’s recent statements still fresh in everyone’s minds, many are asking: is this more than just a casual visit?
The US president-elect sent shockwaves through diplomatic circles when he declared again that Greenland’s ‘ownership and control’ were crucial for US national security. Trump Jr’s visit comes on the back of his father’s controversial push to buy the Arctic island, something the Danes have firmly rebuffed.
Yet despite these rejections, Trump Jr doesn’t seem to be giving up on the idea. After arriving, he posted on Truth Social, boasting about the ‘great reception’ and sharing pictures of himself with locals wearing “Make America Great Again” hats. Adding fuel to the fire, he declared, ‘Make Greenland great again!’ and showed support for his father’s vision: ‘The Free World, need safety, security, strength, and peace!’
Trump Jr’s visit is raising political temperatures in Denmark. Conservative MP Rasmus Jarlov was quick to slam the apparent disrespect shown by the Trump family to their “very, very loyal allies” in Europe. It’s clear the Danes aren’t thrilled, and the controversy isn’t dying down anytime soon.
Despite a seemingly warm reception in Greenland, the trip hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Trump Jr. In fact, he had to fend off questions about whether he was planning to buy Greenland, dismissing the idea with a firm ‘no’ on his podcast. However, that didn’t stop him from waxing poetic about how much he loved the island.
If Greenland’s leaders have their say, it’s unlikely that Trump Jr – or his father – will get what they want anytime soon.
And while Trump Jr may be having a good time soaking up the Greenlandic air, the political fallout back home is likely to keep the island firmly on the map. And who knows? If the Trumps get their way, Greenland may just become the next big real estate deal of the century. Or not.
