To Combat Coronavirus Blues, One City Commissioned a Song

The Four Percent

Mayor Greg Fischer has long wanted a theme song for Louisville, Ky. Now the city has one, but the tune doesn’t mention bourbon whiskey, the Kentucky Derby, Muhammad Ali or any other beacons of civic pride and tourism.

It opens with somber piano chords and these lines: “Hard times come, hard times go. The hardest things to understand are the new and the unknown. How long will we have to stay cooped up in our homes? How much longer until we can hold all our loved ones close?”
