The Chelsea superstars who should be sweating over their futures at Stamford Bridge this summer

Watching Enzo Maresca complete a messy divorce from Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day, Chelsea have endured a turbulent time behind the scenes in west London.

Although many across the continent might have been shocked following Liam Rosenior’s arrival, it appears that the Blues are enjoying life under the former Strasbourg boss.

Avoiding what would have been an infamous FA Cup exit on Saturday as they secured a thrilling 4-2 victory away at Championship high-flyers Wrexham, Chelsea have lost just a trio of their first 15 appearances under Rosenior’s guidance – with all three of those defeats coming against Arsenal.

Getting their Champions League Round of 16 adventure underway on Wednesday night with a trip to reigning European champions PSG, it has been suggested that the one-time Hull City manager is already planning a major summer overhaul.

In what is expected to be another hectic summer behind the scenes in west London, there are plenty of first-team stars who will be sweating over their respective futures at Stamford Bridge.

Liam Delap

While Ipswich might have failed to keep hold of their Premier League status last season as they were hit with an immediate Championship return, Liam Delap signed off the 2024/25 campaign with his stock at a red-hot high.

Bagging 12 Premier League goals at Portman Road last year, the 23-year-old had a string of English giants who were chasing his signature.

Despite heavily speculation over a potential move to Manchester United, Delap arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer after the Blues met his £30million release clause in Norfolk.

However, despite plenty of excitement around west London following Delap’s arrival just nine months ago, the one-time Manchester City academy starlet has drastically failed to find his feet in the English capital.

Registering just a sole strike in any of his 20 Premier League appearances this season, the former Hull City striker has also made just a single top-flight start since January 7th.

Likewise, featuring for just 22 minutes during all of Chelsea’s final three Premier League outings, Delap could already find himself at a major career crossroads this summer.

Forced to watch on from the sidelines as fellow summer recruit Joao Pedro continues to shine, TEAMtalk reported last month that Everton are once again keeping a close eye on proceedings and are willing to offer Delap an immediate west London escape.

Robert Sanchez

Completing a shock switch from Brighton back in the summer of 2023 as Chelsea agreed a reported £25million deal, it is fair to say that there were plenty of raised eyebrows around west London.

Although the Spanish shot-stopper might have gained a reputation during his tenure at the Amex for his ability to play out from the back, he has become somewhat of a figure of ridicule since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Relinquishing his spot between the sticks as Chelsea stormed their way to a thumping 4-1 victory away at Aston Villa last week as Filip Jorgensen was handed a first Premier League appearance since January 4th, Sanchez now appears to be firmly on the outside looking in.

With Rosenior publicly stating last week that Sanchez was “really disappointed” to have been dropped at Villa Park, the 28-year-old appears one of the most likely candidates to be pushed out of the west London exit this summer.

With Rosenior knowing the importance of finding a permanent number one this summer, TEAMtalk reported last week that Strasbourg goalkeeper Mike Penders has already held discussions over a switch from Chelsea’s sister club ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Jamie Gittens

Completing what always felt like a bizarre move to Stamford Bridge last summer, there was a huge amount of surprised faces around west London as Jamie Gittens arrived at the start of July.

Enduring what has been nothing short of a public nightmare since arriving in the English capital, the former Borussia Dortmund starlet has quickly become a forgotten man in SW6.

Still dealing with a recent hamstring injury and not featuring across any competition over the past six weeks, many around Stamford Bridge would jump at the opportunity to reclaim some of the £48.5million they paid less than 12 months ago.

Watching fellow summer recruit Alejandro Garnacho spearhead Chelsea’s FA Cup charge on Saturday evening and with Rosenior making it clear that he expects the ex-Manchester United star to play a leading role next season, it is hard to see where Gittens fits in at Stamford Bridge.

Likewise, alongside the emergence of 18-year-old sensation Estevao, Gittens firmly remains behind the likes of Cole Palmer and Pedro Neto in Rosenior’s attacking pecking order.

Along with making just five Premier League starts this season, the former Manchester City youngster has failed to open his account in almost 500 minutes of top-flight action.

Chelsea spent an initial £88.5million in the summer to sign left-wingers Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens.

The return has been a combined seven goals and eight assists, with Liam Rosenior preferring Pedro Neto and even Enzo Fernandez in that position.
