Mum who walked through fire for her six kids rebuilds life in 2025.

“If I birthed 6 kids, I’m gonna get 6 kids out” – says Swedish SuperMum.

In 2019, Emma Schols made headlines around the world after pulling off the impossible. Alone at home in Edsbyn, Sweden, she dragged all six of her children from a raging house fire, suffering burns to 93 per cent of her body. Six years on, she is back in a rebuilt home, determined to live life with gratitude.

The night that changed everything

It was the early hours of September 3, 2019 when Ms. Schols woke up in terror. The smell of smoke filled the air. Downstairs, the television room was already engulfed.

‘There was no time to think,’ she later said in her memoir Ärren bär jag med stolthet: branden i Edsbyn och livet efteråt (“I Carry My Scars with Pride: The Fire in Edsbyn and Life After.”)

As reported by BrightVibes, back in 2020, barefoot and unprotected, she shielded her youngest children as flames tore into her back. “I threw myself like a shield over the boys so that they would not be injured. When the flames hit me, it was as if my whole back was on fire. But I kept going.”

Upstairs, four more children were trapped. The staircase was engulfed, the heat peeling skin from her feet as she climbed. She got them onto a balcony, pushing them to safety before jumping herself. Then came the dreadful realisation: baby Mollie was still inside.

“I thought that if she’s still in there then she’s probably not alive anymore but I have to try to get her out.”

As previously reported by Goalcast, Ms. Schols said; “It was such thick smoke and so hard to breathe. I was so terribly tired but could see through the smoke how Mollie stood there in her crib and cried and was terrified. Then I suddenly got such an enormous force and managed to get to my feet and lift her up.” She crawled back into the blaze, lifted her baby from the cot, and collapsed outside.

Fighting for her life

Emma spent three weeks on a ventilator and endured more than 20 surgeries, according to reports.

When she finally woke, her first thoughts were not about herself.

“If I birthed 6 kids, I’m gonna get 6 kids out” – says Swedish SuperWoman.

In 2020, Sweden honoured Emma at the Svenska Hjältar Gala. Her eldest son William moved the audience to tears: ‘Sometimes I think I will never see Mum again. But now we see Mum almost every day and that makes me happy.’

But Emma herself has never embraced the title of hero. “If I gave birth to six children, I will get all six out,” she told reporters.

Emma now runs marathons and spends time with her family and friends. She’s written a book about her experiences and how she fought back from the brink.

Emma Schol’s book is available in Swedish.
