Surprise, surprise: Musk appears on Epstein’s files

Newly released documents from the estate of Jeffrey Epstein have named prominent figures including Elon Musk and Prince Andrew, shedding further light on the convicted sex offender’s network of contacts and associates. The material, published by Democrats on the US House Oversight Committee, forms part of an ongoing release of Epstein-related records and includes schedules, flight manifests and financial ledgers.

According to the documents, a 2014 entry in Epstein’s schedule mentioned Musk, noting: “Reminder: Elon Musk to island Dec. 6 (is this still happening?).” The schedule entry does not confirm whether the visit took place, and Musk has consistently denied any social or business links with Epstein. Axios, which reviewed the records, reported that Musk’s representatives have previously stated he had “no relationship” with the disgraced financier. Prince Andrew whom is already known is being listed in the material, most notably in a flight manifest from May 2000. The log records the Duke of York travelling aboard Epstein’s private jet from Teterboro, New Jersey, to West Palm Beach, Florida, alongside Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. The oversight committee noted additional ledger entries referring to “Andrew”, which appeared to relate to payments for massages. The committee suggested these may indicate that Epstein made payments on behalf of the prince, though the records remain heavily redacted and their full context is unclear.

The House Oversight Committee stated that the documents “provide possible evidence of payments from Epstein to masseuses on behalf of an individual identified as ‘Andrew’.” However, as with the Musk reference, there is no direct allegation of criminal conduct contained in the files.

The release marks the third batch of Epstein estate material made public by the committee. Previous releases have already reignited scrutiny of Epstein’s far-reaching connections in politics, finance and technology. Politico and Business Insider report that alongside Musk and Andrew, the new tranche also contained references to other high-profile names, including former White House adviser Steve Bannon and venture capitalist Peter Thiel. Democrats on the Oversight Committee said their goal in publishing the records is to provide transparency, given the public interest in the scope of Epstein’s network. “The American people deserve to see the full extent of Epstein’s connections and the ways in which he may have sought to buy influence,” their statement read.

Epstein, who was convicted in 2008 for soliciting a minor for prostitution, died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on new federal charges of sex trafficking. His death, ruled a suicide, has fuelled persistent conspiracy theories, particularly regarding the powerful individuals he associated with.

While the latest disclosures deepen public awareness of those links, legal experts caution against drawing conclusions. As ABC News reported, the documents are fragmentary, with significant redactions, and do not by themselves demonstrate wrongdoing by those named. For both Musk and Prince Andrew, the mentions highlight associations but fall short of substantiating claims of misconduct. The Oversight Committee has indicated that further material will be released in due course, suggesting the drip-feed of Epstein files will continue to generate headlines for months to come.
