Remote working might be under pressure in some quarters, but it’s still thriving for those who love to travel.

According to the latest ranking by VisaGuide.World, Spain once again claims the title of best country for digital nomads. With its newly updated remote work visa, applicants only need to prove they earn at least €2,600 (about £2,250) per month—double Spain’s minimum wage. The country’s warm climate, scenic beaches, and excellent healthcare system are big draws, and since 2024, successful applicants can bring their spouse or family by showing a little extra monthly income.

UAE ranked second: Ultra-fast internet vs. high living costs for Digital Nomads

Coming in close behind Spain is the United Arab Emirates, scoring 4.4 out of 5 overall. It’s praised for its light tax policies, lower health insurance fees, and blazing-fast internet, which Kamishi from VisaGuide.World says are crucial for remote workers.

However, the UAE’s higher cost of living proved a stumbling block, especially for those on a tight budget. To apply for the UAE’s ‘virtual work visa,’ you’ll need a one-year work contract and a minimum monthly salary of $3,500 (around £2,800). Dubai even has its own virtual working programme, though that raises the bar to $5,000 per month.

Top 10 countries for Digital Nomads: Where else can you work remotely?

If you’re curious about the full rundown, here’s the top 10 list from VisaGuide.World:

  1. Spain
  2. United Arab Emirates (UAE)
  3. Montenegro
  4. Bahamas
  5. Hungary
  6. Canada
  7. Romania
  8. Portugal
  9. Brazil
  10. Curaçao

Whether you’re drawn to Spain’s laid-back Mediterranean lifestyle or tempted by the UAE’s high-speed tech infrastructure, these rankings highlight a range of options to fit different budgets and preferences.

As the world of remote work continues to evolve, digital nomads will likely keep seeking out destinations with sunshine, strong internet, and straightforward visa processes. If that’s you, this year’s list offers plenty of inspiration for your next big adventure.
