The company is also running a multimillion-euro upskilling programme over the next three to five years.
Siemens Healthineers has opened its new R&D centre in Co Dublin’s Swords, completing multi-year extension plans that were first made back in 2023.
The facility has already seen investments of more than €10m, and more is expected in the longer run, the company said. Siemens Healthineers – the healthcare division of German conglomerate Siemens – has had a presence in Swords since 1966.
The new Centre of Excellence for Immunoassay Instrument R&D has already created more than 65 highly skilled positions in software engineering, hardware design, bioscience, data science, systems engineering and artificial intelligence, Siemens Healthineers said.
These specialists are collaborating with the company’s global teams to design and develop next-generation technologies to meet the growing demand for high-volume, high-precision diagnostic testing, the company said.
The Swords facility is dedicated to breakthrough innovations in laboratory instruments that support the detection of infectious diseases, cancer and blood disorders, it added.
The centre’s main focus will be around developing the company’s Atellica family of instruments – advanced immunoassay and chemistry analysers designed to deliver flexibility and efficiency in clinical laboratories worldwide.
“Teams at Swords are focused on pushing the boundaries of diagnostic performance, exploring new ways to optimise speed, accuracy, resilience and adaptability across the Atellica portfolio,” Siemens Healthineers said in a statement to the press.
IDA Ireland, which supported the Swords facility development, has also awarded the company a grant to support its multimillion-euro upskilling programme over the next three to five years. The initiative is expected to enhance workforce capabilities across advanced engineering, operations and leadership.
The launch of the new facility was attended by Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment Darragh O’Brien, TD, who said: “The innovations and products developed here in Ireland will have a truly global reach, reflecting the strong culture of collaboration between industry, research and talent that we are proud to support.”

“Now, by aligning research and development with production under one roof, we are accelerating the pace of discovery and delivery. This centre is a symbol of our commitment to shaping the future of diagnostics where science, technology, and human ingenuity come together to improve lives globally.”
