Fans of Severence are surely biting their nails, waiting for any news about season 2 of the series. Fortunately, Apple has finally shared a new photo and shots from the show’s second instalment.
Created by Ben Stiller, Severance tells a disturbing story about an employee of Lumon Corporation who, to work in a special division, undergoes a surgical procedure that splits his consciousness. At work, Mark can’t remember his private life, and at home he has no idea what his career entails.
Grieving over his wife’s death, Mark copes by agreeing to work a senseless office job that gives him oblivion. Unfortunately, he discovers that the corporation he’s given so much power over him has many dark secrets. He begins to question the nature of his work and the intentions of the company. Severance is a genuinely unmissable show, mixing satire and sci-fi to compelling effect.
Here’s everything that we know about the second season of the show.
When could Severance season 2 release?
Apple, unfortunately, still hasn’t announced a release date for the new instalment of the series.
The first season of Severance premiered in 2022. Apple TV+ green-lit the next instalment even before season 1 ended. However, the release date wasn’t revealed then.
Fans who were expecting season 2 to debut in 2023 were bitterly disappointed. The show was first delayed by rumoured conflict between showrunners and later put on hold because of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
Since the strike ended in fall 2023, there has been no information about Severance season 2. At the beginning of 2024, however, Apple TV+ shared a new image from the show.
On 23 April 2024, the show’s creators announced that filming for season 2 had wrapped. What does this mean for Severance-hungry viewers? Firstly, we can count on the first teaser of the series arriving in the upcoming months.
And here is another photo from season 2:
As for the premiere, we cautiously predict that season 2 may appear in late fall of 2024.
What could the plot of Severance season 2 be?
Spoilers for season 1 below
At the end of season 1, Mark and his friends explore Lumon’s building and find a hidden department full of goats. The team also devises a scheme that allows Mark, Helly and Irving to “wake up” and see where they are while outside the corporate campus. The plan works, but only for a limited time.
During that short moment, Mark finds a photo of his apparently dead wife, Gemma, and discovers she is alive and well and working at Lumon as Ms. Casey, the wellness counsellor.
Helly wakes up at an official gala and realises that she is Helena Eagan, the daughter of Lumon CEO James Eagan. She also finds out that she underwent severance for to PR reasons – Lumon is trying to legalise their technology and sell it to other companies.
At the same time, Irving manages to visit Burt, only to discover he is in a happy relationship.

The series created by Ben Stiller is such an enigma that it’s tough to predict what will happen in season 2. The rebellious employees may be punished for their actions. Lumon’s managers probably won’t fire Mark and his friends, but will figure out how to imprison them and make their lives even more miserable.
It’s unclear what will happen to Helly. As the CEO’s daughter, she should be protected, but on the other hand, her severed self is considered an entirely different person.
However, there is some hope for Mark, who manages to tell his sister that Gemma is alive. Devon probably won’t believe it at first, and Mark won’t be able to clarify what he meant, but his family will surely try to release him from Lumon’s control.
