Freshly leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 suggest that Samsung is borrowing a notable design feature from its biggest foldable smartphone rival.
Serial leaker OnLeaks has teamed up with Android Headlines to supply detailed renders of Samsung’s next compact foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
It looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, but there’s one stand-out design feature that reminds us a lot of a completely different device.
Goodbye Flip 6, hello Moto
We liked the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, but the simple fact is that it feels like it’s a generation or so behind the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra.
There’s one very simple reason for this: its significantly smaller and less impressive external display.
We were put in mind of the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra when we caught a glimpse of these leaked Galaxy Z Flip 7 renders. The external display element has been expanded from 3.4-inches to 4-inches, thus filling an entire half of the phone – much like Motorola’s flagship foldable.
Even the way the external display envelops the twin cameras is redolent of the Razr 50 Ultra’s design. On the Flip 6, the display appeared to swerve out of the way at the last minute, giving the screen a slightly lopsided look.
The sincerest form of flattery?
It’s easy to point to Samsung’s alleged design and proclaim it a copycat, but there’s a chance it could simply be the natural endpoint for a compact flip phone of this type.
Presumably we can all agree that the more of the surface the screen covers the better. Meanwhile, there really isn’t an alternative to marooning those cameras in a corner of said display.
Indeed, the Xiaomi Mix Flip looks similar, just with its two cameras stacked vertically rather than horizontally.

The internal display is also reportedly set to expand, from 6.7-inches in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 to 6.8-inches in the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Our leaker claims that the central crease will also be less pronounced.
At 166.6 x 75.2 x 6.9mm, the Flip 7 looks set to have a slightly larger footprint than the Flip 6, but should still be a little smaller than the Razr 50 Ultra overall.
We recently heard that the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s battery will be bigger, but not that much bigger at 4300mAh.
With a claimed price of $1,099, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 should cost the same as the Galaxy Z Flip 6 at launch. We’re expecting to see it in July or August, and we’re hoping that Samsung can come up with something to help it stand out.
