One easy-to-overlook announcement at Samsung’s recent Unpacked event was that it had no plans to charge for its Galaxy AI tool – at least for now.
Ever since Samsung launched its suite of artificial intelligence tools, there’s been an open question about how much it would eventually cost. Sure, it’s free for now with the purchase of your Galaxy S25 (or other Samsung phone), but for how long?
Running AI queries is an energy-intensive process, requiring precious cloud processing power, and thus energy. That’s not even to mention the billions that have been ploughed into R&D to produce these AI tools in the first place.
Samsung has deferred answering the question of cost for at least another six months with the announcement that Galaxy AI will remain free to access around the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

What Samsung says about potential Galaxy AI charges
We asked Kadesh Beckford, Smartphone Specialist Product Manager at Samsung UK, if there were any plans for Samsung to charge for Galaxy AI features. Here’s what they said:
“As it presently stands, with the existing AI features on the device, there isn’t any form of charge on those existing features that we have on the device.
Yes we are observing what’s happening currently within the market, and within ourselves, but fundamentally aimed at literally just bringing in the key fundamental features for our customers, and if there is going to be any form of change in direction, then obviously that’ll be communicated. But as it presently stands, there isn’t anything there for our customers”
That’s less a ringing endorsement for Samsung Galaxy AI continuing to be free to access for the foreseeable future, and more a ‘watch this space’.
But at least it is free for now. You can rest assured we’ll be checking back in with Samsung over the coming months to see what it has planned for Galaxy AI. One thing seems sure: Galaxy AI, alongside other popular AI tools, is not going to remain free forever.
