Replaced has been high on many most anticipated lists since its announcement in 2021, but the wait for the retro-futuristic 2.5D action platformer is going to be longer than expected, with developer Sad Cat Studios having announced another delay.
Taking to Twitter, Sad Cat Studios announced that Replaced has now been delayed to 2025. Calling its previously announced 2024 launch window “optimistic” and apologizing for the delay, the developer added that it needs more time to deliver on its vision.
“Our initial release date was optimistic, and we apologize for that,” Sad Cat Studios wrote in its delay announcement. “Developing Replaced is quite a unique challenge, and we’re proud to be creating something that special.
“We need more time to ensure we meet the high standards we’ve set for ourselves and to meet the expectations of our fans.”
Sad Cat Studios says it’s going to bring Replaced to Gamescom next week, allowing players attending the event in Cologne, Germany to go hands-on with the game. Additionally, the developer says it also has “something special” planned “for later this week” for those who won’t be able to attend. Presumable, we can expect a new trailer.
This isn’t Replaced’s first delay by any means. Originally due out in 2022, the game was delayed into 2023 due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Sad Cat Studios is a team comprised of developers from Belarus and Ukraine. The following year, the game was delayed again, this time to 2024.
Whenever it releases, Replaced will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
