After a nail-biting finale at the top of a volcano, the celebrity edition of Race Across the World has finally come to a close.
The spin-off series took viewers to South America, with four couples traversing from the Amazon in Brazil to the Andes in Chile. Earlier this year, the main series visited Asia, with five pairs trying to make their way from Japan to Indonesia.
The show is a brilliant way to see parts of the world that may have not been on your radar before, and think about the best way you would tackle a race on a shoestring budget. But when will the BBC hit return? We’ve rounded up everything we know so far.

Is Race Across the World returning for season 5?
Good news – Race Across the World will be back! The show was renewed for another season, and applications opened earlier this year (though they are sadly now closed).
When could Race Across the World season 5 be released?
The BBC hasn’t confirmed when the show will return. However, the past few main seasons have aired in either March or April. Based on that, we expect Race Across the World to air on BBC One in Spring 2025.
When we have a confirmed release date, we’ll update this article.
Do we know the route for Race Across the World season 5?
No route has been confirmed for the next season of Race Across the World. However, we can look at previous instalments to possibly rule out other areas:
- Series 1: London to Marina Bay (Checkpoints in Greece, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, China, Cambodia and Singapore)
- Series 2: Mexico City to Ushuaia (Checkpoints in Honduras, Panama, Colombia, Peru, Argentina and Brazil)
- Series 3: Vancouver to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador (Checkpoints all in Canada)
- Celebrity Series 1: Marrakesh to Tromsø (Checkpoints in Portugal, France, Switzerland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany and Norway)
- Series 4: Sapporo to Gili Meno (Checkpoints in Japan, South Korea, Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia)
- Celebrity Series 2: Belém to Frutillar (Checkpoints in Brazil, Argentina and Chile)
Key locations that haven’t been visited on this list at all include the USA, Africa and Oceania. Of course, there are also large stretches of Europe and Asia that have also been left untouched.
South America seems very unlikely, considering several countries have now been visited twice.
