Further adding to the paranoia surrounding possible assassination attempts on Vladimir Putin, one of his limousines burst into flames after a tremendous explosion was heard along a Moscow street.
The incident occurred on a street just north of Moscow’s FSB headquarters, located near the Lubyanka, on March 29. The Aurus limousine is believed to be one of the President’s official car fleet. Reportedly, Putin regularly makes use of the Russian-made cars, and has even been known to give them as gifts. One such vehicle was presented to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, among others.
Cause of limousine fire is currently unknown
It is believed that the fire started in the car’s engine and very quickly engulfed the entire vehicle. As black smoke filled the street, anxious workers at nearby bars and restaurants hurried to the blazing vehicle in an attempt to help. Thankfully, the emergency services arrived on the scene shortly after and quickly got the fire under control.
Currently, it is unknown what triggered the explosion or who was in the car at the time. However, media reports have confirmed that no one was injured.
Limousine fire gives Putin added concern for his safety
No doubt this incident will further fuel Putin’s concern for his personal safety as he goes to extra lengths to protect himself as the war with Ukraine continues. Just last week, it was reported that FSO officers had been seen opening sewer hatches and rubbish dumps, checking for hidden bombs in the vicinity of where Putin was giving a speech at a Moscow venue.
It has also been reported by a source close to the Kremlin that security measures have been ramped up by Russia’s special services to unprecedented levels, despite them being extremely strict already.
Over to you – Do you think Vladimir Putin is justified in being so concerned about his safety, or is his behaviour a little extreme?
