Donald Trump has made another headline-grabbing claim, saying he and Vladimir Putin have agreed to start peace talks ‘immediately’ to end the war in Ukraine.
The US president took to Truth Social, calling the conversation ‘lengthy and highly productive.’ He listed the topics they discussed, including Ukraine, the Middle East, artificial intelligence, and the US dollar.
But the most surprising part? Trump says Putin even used his campaign slogan, ‘Common Sense.’
Putin invites Trump to Moscow: What’s behind the move?
The Kremlin later confirmed the call and dropped another bombshell: Putin has invited Trump to Moscow.
According to Russian officials, the two also talked about prisoner exchanges, leading to the release of Marc Fogel, a US teacher detained in Russia since 2021.
Trump responded by naming his picks for negotiators, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
Serious diplomacy or political theatre? The truth behind the talks
The timing of Trump’s announcement is raising questions.
His supporters see this as proof that he’s the only leader who can bring peace and negotiate with Putin. But critics aren’t buying it, calling the move a publicity stunt to boost his election campaign.
Adding fuel to the debate, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth recently suggested Ukraine may have to accept a negotiated settlement—possibly even giving up land.
So, is Trump really about to broker peace in Ukraine? Or is this just another bold claim as he fights to reclaim the White House?
One thing’s for sure—this story isn’t over.
