Pure Telecom, the Irish-owned fibre broadband and telecoms company, has officially opened a multisensory room for children visiting Children’s Health Ireland at Connolly. The room and services were entirely funded by Pure Telecom’s fundraising initiatives for Children’s Health Foundation.
Children’s Health Foundation raises vital funds to support sick children and their families in Ireland. It has been instrumental in driving cutting-edge research into childhood illness and treatment while also supplying funds for state-of-the-art facilities, advanced equipment, and enhanced services for Ireland’s most critically ill children. In total, Pure Telecom has raised more than €130,000 for Children’s Health Foundation through a combination of staff and customer fundraising initiatives.
The multisensory facility offers a stress relief haven for children visiting the Children’s Health Ireland at Connolly urgent care centre. It has been tailor-made to benefit those with autism, learning challenges and sensory sensitivities. The busy hospital environment can be challenging for these children and their families, which can impact their overall experience and ability to receive the service they need.
The room provides a tranquil escape from what can be a sensory overload and features soothing elements including gentle lighting, immersive wall projections, tactile objects and calming shimmering lights. The room is expected to benefit hundreds of the patients and their families who attend Children’s Health Ireland at Connolly each year.
Speaking about the room, Fionna Brennan, Director of Nursing Children’s Health Ireland at Tallaght & Connolly said ‘The multisensory room is of huge benefit to children who attend Children’s Health Ireland at Connolly. These facilities offer a therapeutic benefit for patients with sensory issues and allow a safe, calming place for children before and after procedures. The opening of this facility marks another positive step forward in creating a holistic, inclusive and calming environment at what can often be a stressful or overwhelming time for families and children.”
