Paris Saint-Germain are close to beating Liverpool to the signature of Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Willian Pacho, reports have revealed.
The Reds are yet to make any signings this summer but are keen to bolster at the back, and 90min understands 22-year-old Pacho has been identified as a potential target as new head coach Arne Slot seeks to reinforce his defence.
However, it was first revealed by Florian Plettenberg that PSG had opened talks over a deal to sign Pacho, who soon made it clear he was interested in the move.
Fabrizio Romano added soon after that a verbal agreement over a transfer fee worth in excess of €40m (£34.3m) has been struck, with personal terms also thrashed out between Pacho and the Ligue 1 giants.
There are still some final details to sort out but Pacho is expected to head for Paris imminently to put the finishing touches on a move to Parc des Princes.
Centre-back is a priority area for Liverpool during the summer transfer window following the departure of Joel Matip earlier this summer.
Reports have named Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie as a target but 90min understands such claims are wide of the mark as it stands. Levi Colwill of Chelsea has plenty of admirers but the Blues have warned all suitors the 21-year-old is untouchable and Liverpool have not advanced their interest as a result.
Liverpool also hope to recruit a new wide forward this summer and will move to sign a new defensive midfielder if Wataru Endo leaves the club.
