PanPan Kids Smartwatch, parent-controlled wearable, reviewed
There is definitely an interest and a desire, among parents, for a product like this. In local schools there are parent’s whatsap groups discussing forward looking policies for their children beginning their educational journeys with the looming challenge of screen time, and the competition for their children’s eyeballs. The PanPan smart watch is definitely aiming to tackle the most pressing concerns by parent. First up, the set up process by the company was effective, efficient, and impressively turned around quickly. Our testers were impressed by this and it is a definite plus for the device.
The watch looks good, which is a plus, and seemed to be pleasing and agreeable for the kids which is important. The one question, which is always hard to know after a few weeks use, is how durable they will be, especially when you have preteens using them, bumping around with them on. With that caveat, they deliver a good service, and without the landgrab of data, audio, visual and anything else that’s going that smartphone based products are inclined to do. If you are going to take this product on, you do need to factor in the cost of the app also. Naturally this is the way of things these days, but just consider it when you are pricing this up. Especially if you are giving this as a gift to someone else, it might be strategic to budget in covering those costs, rather than giving a gift that then requires the receiver to immediately take on a financial commitment.
Overall our tester enjoyed putting it through it’s paces, and, as this product is a relatively early mover in this market, it would be one that they would be happy to recommend to parents aiming to both be safe but wanting a better option than just handing their child a smartphone with all of the drawbacks that that entails.
