Barcelona’s Marc Guiu is one of the strikers being linked with Chelsea right now and as we reported here Sunday morning, we can confirm too that he is absolutely of interest to Chelsea right now and talks are happening. He is also wanted by Bayern Munich, and Barcelona also have a new contract offer on the table for him.
We are unsure at the moment whether he will be for the first team now, or if he would go out on loan, but initial thoughts from SPTC sources is that he would go on loan, or stay with Chelsea U21s. The reliable youth insider The Secret Scout has suggested he would go out on loan, and Matteo Moretto of Relevo has also mentioned a loan to Strasbourg.
He does look very good, and the biggest thing for me is he is the exact striker profile (not experience and age wise) that we need. He’s physical, tall (6ft 2in at just 18 means he will grow even more and could potentially reach 6ft 3 or 4in), and is a more traditional-style number 9 but with a real modern twist. I’ve seen him play a number of times and I can say that he is an exciting and technically sound striker. I really like him.
He has a lot of pace in behind but can do it all. He can link, drop in, play off the last man, and as I said, the most important thing he has is physical presence and height, he is a focal point. He is also a real fox in the box and has great strength on and off the ball, and an incredible work rate. He can score goals too – getting 8 in 24 apps for Barcelona B and Barcelona last season which isn’t bad at all just starting off and at the age of 18.
But as I said, he’s probably too raw and young to come into the first team this summer, but I’d absolutely not rule that out right now either. He’s clearly a developing striker and has many elements of his game to work on, but he’s showing a lot of signs of being able to progress into a top striker in the future. I sense this as another opportunity at just £5m.
