‘You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow. This opportunity comes once in a lifetime.’ – Eminen, Lose Yourself, circa 2002.
One of my favourite ever songs from Eminen’s back catalogue, you can relate the quotes to many things in life.
Filip Jorgensen needs to whack this song on on Thursday morning and pump himself up for his next game for Chelsea against Genk in the Europa Conference League that night.
The Blues welcome the Belgian side to Stamford Bridge in the Conference League, and if things continue as they have been, Jorgensen will start this game.
I’ve admitted a few times that I don’t know much about the 22-year-old Danish U21 international purely because I have just not see enough of him yet. And that is still the case.
He has made three appearances for Chelsea this season so far but none in the league yet, because Enzo Maresca has been picking Robert Sanchez as his number one.
Maresca appeared to back Sanchez after his mistakes at the weekend, but is that just for the public ears?
Surely the pressure will now be increasing on Sanchez and his starting role is under threat?
We have been speaking about squad competition today after Levi Colwill’s ‘players are knocking on the door asking to play’ comments. And Jorgensen will be one of those players.
His chance might come soon. And he can take his next audition with both hands, and absolutely nail it like Eminem tells you to.
He [Jorgensen, not Eminem] needs to come in on Thursday night and absolutely take his chance to increase the pressure on Sanchez and fight for more game time. Because Sanchez is stuttering again.
This competition is exactly what we need. Players need to feel other players breathing down their necks, and when you make some big mistakes like Sanchez did, you must know you need to up your game once again.
Sanchez has actually started the season well, but unfortunately he will always have a brain fart in his game. Jorgensen must see this and use it as motivation. And that can start on Thursday this week.
