Honor is once again making waves in the tech world. The company not only globally launched the highly anticipated Magic V3 at its event in Berlin, but also introduced its latest smartwatch, the Honor Watch 5.
With a sleek, modern design and cutting-edge technology, the Honor Watch 4 successor is poised to be a strong contender among the best smartwatches currently available. While the price is yet to be confirmed, it’s likely to be a budget alternative to high-end models.
Weighing only 35g and measuring just 11mm in thickness, the Honor Watch 5 should be comfortable enough for all-day wear. Its slim profile, combined with a lightweight design, was designed to be almost unnoticeable on the wrist, ideal for those seeking both style and comfort.
The watch features a 1.85-inch AMOLED colour display, with a resolution of 450×390 pixels and a pixel density of 322 PPI, which is decent. Aside from a physical crown on the side, interaction is via the touchscreen.
With a squared-off design and rounded corners, it bears a resemblance to the Apple Watch Series 9. However, it doesn’t run Google’s Wear OS, opting for Honor’s own software instead.
While that means third-party apps aren’t available, it should benefit battery life.
The watch features 480mAh Silicon-carbon battery, which offers an impressive 15-day battery life according to Honor. The Watch 4 was promised to offer 14 days of use, so this is a slight improvement.
However, in our review, the best-case scenario with typical use of the Watch 4, meaning a couple of runs and using the GPS, the battery lasted a maximum of 6 days and couldn’t last a full week.
This time around, the battery is complemented by a ‘Turbo X Smart Power Management’ system, designed to make the watch more power efficient.
The Honor Watch 5 is also packed with health and fitness tracking capabilities. It offers real-time monitoring of essential health metrics, including heart rate and SpO2 levels.
For outdoor enthusiasts, there’s a built-in GPS, making it easier to track your runs, hikes, or cycling sessions, with Honor’s AccuTrack technology supposedly improving its precision.
The Honor Watch 5 will be available in three striking colours: Black, Gold, and Green. Pricing and availability is yet to be revealed, but something close to the Watch 4’s £129.99 starting price is likely.
