Mouthwashing came out of nowhere late last year, and quickly turned into an underground sensation. The horror adventure title was widely acclaimed by those whose attention it grabbed, and that strong word of mouth has resulted in pretty strong sales.
Taking to Twitter, publisher Critical Reflex has announced that Mouthwashing has sold over 500,000 units since releasing for Steam last September. What’s more, the game is also set to expand its audience, with PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch sometime this year. On PS5 and Switch, the game will also get a physical release, courtesy of Fangamer.
Mouthwashing is set aboard a space freighter, and tells the story of its crew following a shipwreck in space during a routine run. The game’s story is told in non-linear fashion, and leans heavily on psychological horror. On Steam, it enjoys an Overwhelmingly Positive user review rating, with 96 percent positive scores from over 24,000 user reviews at the time of writing.
Exactly when Mouthwashing will come to consoles this year remains to be seen, but hopefully, that announcement will be made sooner rather than later. Stay tuned.
