MindsEye Publisher Does Not Believe in “Concerted Effort” to Spread Negativity About the Game

IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has said that he doesn’t believe that there might be a concerted effort to spread negativity about Build A Rocket Boy’s upcoming action game MindsEye. In an interview with IGN, Abrak simply said that he doesn’t believe in this happening, and that the quality of the game will speak for itself when it comes out.

“I don’t know. I don’t believe that. I don’t believe that,” said Abrak. “I just think the game should speak for itself on June the 10th.”

While Abrak didn’t say anything more about the supposed negativity about MindsEye, he did talk about some of the negative feedback that the game has been getting since some players got their hands on early copies of the title. Abrak said that he believes that players should wait for the game’s day one patch to get a more complete experience.

“I think we should all wait ’til the 10th of June because it’s very normal these times that we all as developers keep on working on patches and working to the last minute,” he said. “And there’s a lot of these things coming in. So I think that people should just wait until the release and have the best possible experience.”

For context, Build A Rocket Boy co-CEO Mark Gerhard had spoken on MindsEye’s official Discord channel about the negative reception to the game’s marketing. Responding to a post asking “Do you think that all the people who reacted negatively were financed by someone?”, Gerhard responded by saying “100%”. He continued in another post, saying “Doesn’t take much to guess who.”

“I just said that there is a concerted effort by some people that don’t want to see Leslie or Build A Rocket Boy to be successful that are making a concerted effort to trash the game and the studio,” he wrote in another post on the Discord channel. “It’s pretty easy to see the bots and the repeated replies to any content that we put out.”

As for Abrak’s comments about wanting players to wait for a day one patch for MindsEye, this comes about thanks to some players having gotten their hands on physical copies of the game due to some stores breaking street dates. One such player wrote out an entire thread on social media platform X, comparing the state of the game to that of the notoriously buggy launch state of Mass Effect Andromeda.

The studio itself also posted a statement, revealing that physical copies of MindsEye did not include the day one update that would likely include several optimisation improvements as well as bug fixes.

“Lenz News notified us that a number of physical copies of MindsEye have surfaced ahead of our June 10th launch,” posted the studio. “While we know you are buzzing with as much excitement as we are at Build A Rocket Boy and IOI Partners, we wanted to share a few important notes.”

MindsEye is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on June 10.
