Ahead of its upcoming closed beta, NetEase Games has released a new trailer for Marvel Rivals, highlighting one of the two new playable characters – Venom. Bonded to Eddie Brock, the Timestream Entanglement event has caused the symbiote to lose his memories. In the meantime, “something ancient” seems to be reaching out from the Multiverse, and Venom will seemingly do something about it.
How? Why, by participating in 6v6 matches against other heroes and villains, capturing points and escorting payloads (say what you will, but it’s a living). As a Vanguard, Venom’s skills include swinging and crawling on walls. However, he can also leap slam onto a group of enemies and bind them with tendrils, gaining shields and preventing them from escaping.
If close-range attacks can’t down any targets, Venom can dive into the ground, gaining shields and emerging with one giant bite. It’s a tankier play-style than Spider-Man, for sure.
The closed beta for Marvel Rivals begins on July 23rd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC, with cross-play enabled. Participants can net an exclusive costume for Venom, Cyan Clash, calling back to his old Marvel Comics appearance.
