The Estée Lauder Companies, the famous cosmetics empire, is mourning the loss of Leonard Lauder, one of two heirs to the company. Lauder died at the age of 92 on June 14, 2025, his family and the company announced. Here, we’re remembering Lauder’s contributions, life, career and family.
Leonard Lauder’s Net Worth
Lauder reached a net worth of more than $15 billion before he died, according to Bloomberg. In 2021, Bloomberg listed Lauder as the 44th richest person in the world. At the time, he had a fortune of more than $32 billion.
Who Was Leonard Lauder’s Wife?
Lauder was married twice. His first wife, Evelyn Hausner, died in 2011 from ovarian cancer. She was an Austrian American businesswoman credited as one of the brains behind the pink ribbon symbol for breast cancer.
Four years after Hausner died, Lauder married photographer Judy Glickman. They stayed together until Lauder’s death in 2025.
Did Leonard Lauder Have Children?
Yes, Lauder had kids. Together with Hausner, he had two children: son William, who is the executive chairman The Estée Lauder Companies, and son Gary, the managing director of Lauder Partners LLC.
William paid tribute to his late father in a statement, according to a press release from The Estée Lauder Companies.
“Throughout his life, my father worked tirelessly to build and transform the beauty industry, pioneering many of the innovations, trends, and best practices that are foundational to the industry today,” the Board of Directors member said. “He was the most charitable man I have ever known, believing that art and education belonged to everyone, and championing the fight against diseases such as Alzheimer’s and breast cancer. Above all, my father was a man who practiced kindness with everyone he met. His impact was enormous. He believed that employees were the heart and soul of our company, and they adored him and moments spent with him. His warmth and thoughtfulness made an imprint on our company, the industry, and, of course, our family. Together with my family, The Estée Lauder Companies, and the countless people he touched, we celebrate his extraordinary life.”
Gary echoed his brother in his own statement, which read, “My father was a remarkable man, a leader in business, a devoted philanthropist, and a deeply loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. … To me, he was also a constant source of encouragement, wisdom, and love. His legacy is vast, not only in the beauty industry, but in the countless lives improved by his charitable efforts and his passionate commitment to the arts, education, and healthcare. He was not only well-respected and admired, but he was also adored by his employees and colleagues.”
How Did Leonard Lauder Die?
The Estée Lauder Companies did not disclose an exact cause of death for Lauder, but he was 92. It’s unknown if he was battling any specific illnesses toward the end of his life.
