Leeds United are now ready to make a move to sign a “tremendous” defender if they seal promotion to the Premier League, according to a recent report.
Leeds want to strengthen their midfield this summer
The Whites have eight games remaining to seal their place in next season’s Premier League. Given how well they have played up until now, it is expected that Daniel Farke’s side will go all the way and secure promotion despite the understandable trepidation from fans.

Leeds know all too well about Aleksandar Mitrovic’s talents.
If they do, this summer is expected to be a busy time for the Yorkshire side, as they are already being linked with moves for several new midfielders.
Indeed, Farke has his eyes on strengthening an engine room that has had its injury problems this season. According to Graeme Bailey via Leeds United News, Leeds are plotting to sign Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City this summer after his current loan spell at Ipswich Town comes to an end.
The Tractor Boys look unlikely to make the midfielder’s move to Portman Road into a permanent switch, while Pep Guardiola doesn’t have the Englishman featuring in his plans going forward. Therefore, he could be on the move again this summer, and Leeds want to re-sign their former midfielder. It is claimed his wages would be a stumbling block in a permanent return to Elland Road, so the Whites are looking to strike a loan deal instead.
Leeds readying move to sign Bundesliga defender
If promotion is sealed to the top flight, journalist Ben Jacobs has told Give Me Sport that Leeds are ready to go for defender Nico Elvedi in the summer, as he is interested in the move provided they are in the top flight.
Elvedi was wanted by Farke personally back in January, but the player wasn’t keen on a move to the Championship midway through the season. But given Farke knows the player well from their time at Borussia Mönchengladbach, that interest hasn’t disappeared, and Jacobs states that Elvedi would be ‘ready’ for the Premier League, and given he can play in two positions, it is a deal that makes sense for the Whites.
“That’s why, as I revealed a couple of months ago, that Nico Elvedi had crept onto Leeds’ radar. He’s another player that didn’t want to move in mid-season, and he feels that he’s ready for the Premier League rather than the Championship,” Jacobs told Give Me Sport.
“And, although Elvedi is more of a centre-back, he’s a centre-back and a left-back and equally comfortable in both positions. Leeds could kill two birds with one stone there, and get a player capable of playing in more than one position.”

Elvedi, who has been described as a “tremendous player” by German football expert Chris Williams, is still under contract at Mönchengladbach until 2027, but it is believed that an offer of around £10 million may be enough for Leeds to strengthen their defence this summer. The 28-year-old’s potential arrival would likely see him join Joe Rodon as the club’s two main centre-backs.
