The 44-year-old – who will be presenting Joshua’s clash with Paul – has been at the heart of our television screens for many major sporting events over the years
Kate Scott is on presenting duties for Anthony Joshua’s money-spinning Netflix showdown with Jake Paul tonight.
Scott will also be joined by some star-studded guests, including heavyweight legend Lennox Lewis, Andre Ward and Laila Ali – who is the daughter of the great Muhammad Ali. Former cruiserweight and heavyweight world champion David Haye is also expected to serve as a co-commentator on fight night.
Over the last few years, Scott has established herself as one of the most respected and admired sports presenters on television. The 44-year-old can often be seen on our screens covering the UEFA Champions League on CBS alongside Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards.
Scott’s rise through the media ranks has been nothing short of sensational. Despite her regular appearances at various high-profile football matches, she is an avid boxing enthusiast and has provided coverage for some top events in recent times. And so, Mirror Fighting takes a look at her rising net worth as well as her background…
Kate Scott’s net worth
Scott – formerly Abdo – has built a glittering career that’s as eye-catching as her estimated £2million net worth. Her journey in the media world began two decades ago with an internship at Deutsche Welle, Germany’s international broadcaster, where she was quick to become a household name.
In 2006, she earned herself a role as a production assistant for Goal – the Bundesliga magazine – before eventually moving on to present news across Deutsche Welle’s English and German channels until 2009. Given her talented exploits, Scott ventured across to CNN – where she anchored the network’s World Sports programme.
The 44-year-old then secured a role as head anchor at Sky Sports Germany, before switching to the UK team – where she presented Sky Sports News, as well as hosting many boxing pay-per-view events, and European football competitions. It was at that point Fox Sports recognised her talents, as they brought her in for their 2015 Women’s World Cup coverage.
Eventually, she made the switch to the US – joining Fox as the lead presenter for its Champions League and Europa League broadcasts. After Fox lost the right, Scott then enjoyed a brief spell with TNT before eventually putting pen-to-paper on a lucrative deal with CBS Sports in 2020 – where she remains to this day.
Marriage to a former professional boxer
Last year, Scott married former heavyweight boxing star Malik Scott in a luxurious ceremony in Malibu Hills, California. To mark the rather joyous occasion, the celebration featured a rather personal touch: a custom wedding cake that paid tribute to the sport the boxer credits with ‘saving his life.’
He told Genting Casino: “Kate did something incredibly creative, caring and compassionate, reflecting the walk of life I come from. She took an old picture of my first ABC Gym in North Philadelphia, where I was raised, the gym that essentially saved my life. She copied the ring from that gym and turned it into a cake, with me in the ring wearing the boxing trunks I had on when I fought Tony Thompson. “Those trunks had a design I borrowed from Sugar Ray Leonard when he fought Tommy Hearns the second time, but I added my own colours – pink and black with stripes. She even put herself next to me in a wedding dress.
“The thoughtfulness and creativity moved me to tears because it took me back to my childhood in that ring, where I faced many challenges, learned hard lessons, and grew. That ring always meant the world to me. She made sure to incorporate that into our wedding day, placing us both in the ring on the cake – her in a wedding dress, me in my boxing outfit. The contrast was beautiful, thoughtful and loving.”
Many fans have been accustomed to seeing Scott corner Deontay Wilder over the years, before their eventual split earlier this year. That said, the American was a respected boxer before switching to coaching. Scott, 45, made his professional debut back in 2000. He was quick to rise up the ranks, but suffered his first defeat in 2013 against Derek Chisora. Scott’s second loss in the ring came a year later at the hands of Wilder. He failed to capture a world title, and eventually retired in 2016 with a professional record of 38-3-1.
Awkward spat with Jamie Carragher
Scott shares a rather close friendship with her CBS crew – with viewers often praising their rather closely-knit relationship. However, the 44-year-old along with Carragher grabbed the headlines last year. During a broadcast, the ex-Liverpool defender cracked a poorly-timed joke about the presenter’s loyalty to Malik – sparking a rather cumbrous on-air-exchange.
The incident took place during Arsenal’s showdown with Porto. Former Manchester City defender Richards casually wore an Arsenal shirt and advised Carragher to do the same thing. But the Scouse native suggested Scott should wear it. A huge Manchester United fan, Scott declined, replying: “No, I’m loyal. I’m loyal.” Carragher pressed further, asking: “To who?” to which Scott replied firmly: “Manchester United, thank you very much.” Carragher, 44, stunned viewers with a rater tongue-in-cheek remark about Malik. Feeling uncomfortable about the situation, Kate hit back: “What? Why would you even say that?”
Unsurprisingly, the footage quickly went viral on social media. Malik was quickly made aware of the video, and he warned Carragher he would “show up in a physical manner” if the Liverpool legend crossed the line again. Merely 24 hours later, the situation rather died down as Kate diffused the tension with some humour.
“This group, we’ve been together now for three-and-a-half-years is it? And I grew up with a brother and doing this show I feel like I’ve gained three more here,” she said, before playfully branding each of her colleagues. Henry was “the golden child who can do no wrong,” Richards the “little bro – loud but loveable,” and Carragher “the middle child… chip on his shoulder, capable of saying anything for attention. Does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely. Does he apologise? Yes, he does – but all of us have that one annoying family member that we still love and accept.”
Former heavyweight boxer Malik later confirmed Carragher had apologised in person: “It was not something I lost any sleep over because I noticed the way Kate handled it was very, very well, and Jamie was just being Jamie and I have no problem with him,” he said. “You chop it up and apologise like men, which he did, and life goes on. I respect anyone who has a mishap and is man enough to apologise to the person and the person’s partner. I felt no ill feelings when we met.
“The thing that Jamie said, Kate was hurt, but they all made up and handled it collectively at the time. I said my piece on it, but the real thing is, we all got together and looked into each other’s eyes and had great food and great conversations. I never had a strong opinion about Jamie Carragher, only about the things that he said, but meeting him, I really enjoyed the man’s company. I have the utmost respect for him, as well as the rest of the panel.”
Being BANNED from making boxing debut
Over the years, Kate has been sitting hitting the pads and training in the gym along with her husband Malik. It then led to reports of the TV presenter potentially making her debut in the ring under the Misfits Boxing banner. At first, the pair were open to the idea, but Scott has since refused to allow his beloved wife lace up the gloves
Speaking to Thunderpick back in July, Scott said: “I would say it’s dead forever. I’ve been in love with Kate the last few years, and the love has got deeper and deeper and deeper, and at one time Kate boxing was something I was entertaining. But I’m so crazy about this woman that I would never want to see her box right now.
“I was deeply in love with her before, and was sketchy and nervous about it, and now I just can’t even imagine it. I’m cool with just training my wife on pads. We were looking at fights together, but I never want to see her box. I wouldn’t say I persuaded her, but my energy speaks for itself. It’s not something that I bring up. It’s not something that I entertain.”
