Now that the pandemic is over, it’s high time to recognize loneliness as one of our biggest struggles as people. It might seem fun for a few days to just be alone at your home without the pressures of the outside world, but it gets tiresome after a while. For some people, that’s just the reality even after the lockdowns.
That’s why we all need to have an outlet. Someone we can talk to when life gets tough or someone to share an accomplishment with.
Can that someone be an AI? That’s what we’re here to find out. In this article, I’ll review Janitor AI, including its pricing, pros and cons, and my thoughts after using it. Stay tuned!
What is Janitor AI?
Janitor AI is an AI-based platform which houses an impressive collection of chatbots derived from popular characters, fictional or otherwise. Its most popular characters range from anime protagonists and antagonists, to Twitch streamers, to comic book heroes.
One of the biggest draws of Janitor AI is that you can use it to simulate NSFW conversations with your favorite characters. It also allows you to create your own characters based on pre-existing personas or your imagination.
Can You Create Characters in Janitor AI?
Yes, you can create your own characters with Janitor AI and it’s actually pretty simple. You just need to follow these steps:
Step #1: Create An Account
Navigate to the top-right side of the screen and select “Register.” Alternatively, you can use your Google, Twitter, or Discord account to log into the website.
Step #2: Select “Create A Character”
Once you have an account, you can now click the “Create A Character” button right where the “Login” and “Register” buttons were.
Step #3: Establish Character Information
Now, all you need to do is create your character by providing crucial information that will dictate how the model converses. These are the fields that you must fill:
- Name: The display name of your character.
- Image: The display image of your character.
- Introduction: A bio based on your character.
- Gender & Type: Options include male, female, non-binary, fictional, real, celebrity, hero, villain, and more.
- Rating: Toggles NSFW content.
- Personality: Adjectives that best describe your character.
- Initial Message: How the character will greet the chatter.
- Scenario: The current predicament in which the chatter will encounter the character.
- Sample Dialogs: Defines how the character’s speech patterns, tendencies, and catchphrases.
Testing Janitor AI Myself
I’ll be honest — I’m not exactly the target audience for Janitor AI. Most of the conversations, even when I attempt to steer away from it, tend to venture into NSFW territory. The fact that it even features real people (actors, streamers) and characters who are literal children didn’t help either. However, don’t worry. I won’t let that affect my review of the website in general.
To get the full experience of the website, I selected a character that I’m at least familiar with. So, I went with Gwen Stacy from Spider-man: Into The Spiderverse.
A bulk of the conversation ended up relating to the events that occurred in the Spiderverse films. Even when I try to change the conversation, AI Gwen defaults to worrying about Miles. This is expected since it’s likely that the training set used to create this model is based on the movies alone, and the AI doesn’t have much real-world information about anything else.
As for the conversation itself, the longer it got, the more confused the AI gets. It started pretty well, but the model quickly hallucinated once I fed it more and more questions. Luckily, this character is one of the few I tested that didn’t step into the NSFW category.
Now, let’s move on to the performance. I experienced the site lagging from time to time, and even completely going down for a couple of minutes. For what it’s worth, they’re completely transparent about the reason (switching servers) behind the downtimes.
Is Janitor AI Free?
Janitor AI is completely free. However, they also offer a Pro version which features smarter AI models. The pricing structure of Janitor AI Pro are as follows:
- Free: 50 messages monthly.
- Standard: $2.99 per month. 1000 messages monthly with permanent but limited memory and the ability to create private characters.
- Premium: $12.99 per month. Everything in the Standard tier, along with an increase from 1000 messages to 5000 messages per month.
- Deluxe: $39.99 per month. Everything in the Premium tier, along with an increase from 5000 messages per month to unlimited messages.

The Bottom Line
Look, I’m not one to yuck someone’s yum. But overall, this was a very confusing experience for me. Will I ever revisit the site? Probably not. Will I recommend Janitor AI to those who are actively seeking character-based AI chatbots? Yes.
For all its faults, the core functionality of the platform is robust. It provides users a safe space to explore themselves and combat loneliness through chatbots.
However, more than anything, the website needs to invest in tighter moderation. Once they have that fixed, Janitor AI becomes a must for anyone looking for this specific type of content. For now, be a responsible user and have fun!
