Iran launched several missiles on Monday, 23 June, targeting a US military base in Qatar and another American position in Iraq, in retaliation for the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities reportedly ordered by Donald Trump, according to Iranian state television. Explosions were heard in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
A witness told EWN that “Qatar is in chaos” at the moment.
Iranian state TV described the attack as an “Announcement of Victory”. Air defence systems were activated at the Ain al-Asad airbase in Iraq. Meanwhile, Israeli sources confirmed to Haaretz that Iran fired six missiles at another US base in Qatar.
The Iraqi base was previously attacked by Iran in 2020 in response to the assassination of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, an operation also ordered by Donald Trump. The base is located in the Kurdistan region of Iraq and serves US and coalition forces supporting the Iraqi army and contributing to the NATO mission.
