Publisher Skybound Entertainment and developer Quarter Up have released a new showcase video for upcoming fighting game Invincible VS, this time around featuring members of the fighting game community having fun with the title and offering their feedback. Check out the latest video below.
As well-known fighting game streamer Maximilian Dood brings up, one of the things that sets Invincible VS apart from other fighting games is its presentation. “Power levels, destructibility of environments, and I still remember like ‘you’re watching a tag game’ and it has this bright and beautiful art style, and all of a sudden, it’s just smeared with gore,” he said.
Kizzie Kay, known for his work in organising fighting game events like CEO, ECT and Frosty Faustings, as well as fighting game commentator Michael Kwon both also spoke about how faithfully Invincible VS is adapting the general look, feel, and overall atmosphere of the Invincible Amazon series.
“I mean just watching season one, episode one, I think everyone was like mind-blown after that episode, and it’s just like ‘oh, dang, they’re translating that into the video game’,” said Kwon. “It’s like everybody’s head’s popping off.”
Game director Dave Hall also gave his thoughts on the design intent behind Invincible VS that the studio has been going on. He brought how various aspects of the source material, like the scale, tend to be important to make the game adaptation feel right. He also spoke about the importance of gameplay features like arena shifts, and even the ultra-violent ultimates in the game.
“I think with superheroes, it’s pretty important for us to kind of capture the big things, which are like the speed, the scale, the power, and all those amazing things that goes into those,” he said. “We can go from arena shifts when you hit somebody so hard when they’re on their knees in a crumbled state, you’re shooting them to the moon, and now you’re fighting on the moon. And then the ultimates and the overkills in particular are one of the big things for us where you finally kill that other superhero, and the only way to do it is to blow their f***ing head off, right?”
Along with all the commentary by members of the fighting game community and the developers, the video also features quite a bit of gameplay that shows off its various characters and their different moves.
The video is a follow-up to a behind-the-scenes video that was released last month for Invincible VS. The previous video also included members of the fighting game community, along with the developers talking about the upcoming title.
“Most fighting games nowadays, you don’t have the opportunity to create something completely new,” said developer Reepal Parbhoo. “Most of these fighting games that exist, they’re very high in the iterative number of whatever the series is, and if you deviate from from that too much, the fan base kind of revolts against you. They’re like, ‘dude, that’s not my same game I’ve grown up liking.’ But, in this opportunity we have, we can do whatever we want, right?”
Invincible VS was unveiled during Xbox Games Showcase 2025 last month. The game doesn’t yet have a solid release date. However, we do know that it is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
