Explosive claims emerge as Moscow alleges a German-Russian was planning to derail trains for Kyiv.
Russian authorities have arrested a German-Russian man accused of planning a sabotage act at the bidding of Ukraine’s secret service. The suspect, reportedly born in 2003, is now at the epi-centre of a gripping tale involving explosives, graffiti, and allegations of espionage.
According to Russia’s FSB security services, the man was preparing to blow up a railway line near Nizhny Novgorod, a city around 250 miles east of Moscow. The alleged mission? To disrupt Russian freight transport in exchange for payment from Ukraine’s SBU security service.
Train-wreck tactics: What the FSB allegedly uncovered
Russian investigators claim they unearthed an improvised explosive device (IED) at the suspect’s residence, along with evidence of communication with an SBU operative. A video released by Russian military media reportedly shows the suspect confessing to the plot.
With his face blurred in the footage, the suspect recounted how he met a shadowy figure online, only to later learn the man was “a member of the Ukrainian special services.”
He alleges the relationship began with small-scale acts of sabotage, such as setting fire to a fuse box and tagging pro-Ukrainian graffiti. But the final “task,” as he called it, raised the stakes: derailing a freight train.
Derailment drama or political propaganda?
While the FSB claims to have foiled a sinister plot, neither the German Foreign Ministry nor Ukraine’s SBU has commented on the case. With tensions between Moscow and Kyiv running high, the story has added fuel to an already blazing geopolitical fire.
Railways in the crosshairs
Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian railroads, which are vital for transporting military supplies to the front lines. As Moscow pushes this latest arrest into the spotlight, critics wonder whether the allegations are part of a wider propaganda campaign- or if the accused really was plotting to turn Russia’s rails into rubble.
For now, the accused awaits his fate, and the truth behind the claims remains locked in a blur of political power plays.
