Samsung’s first smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, proved to be one of the best smart rings you could buy at the time, bringing attention to this niche market.
While most people still prefer smartwatches, Samsung’s device proved there’s room for both. Now, 91mobiles reports that a new patent suggests exciting upgrades for the Galaxy Ring 2, including the ability to measure temperature.
As a reminder, the current Galaxy Ring already has a temperature sensor, but it’s mainly for menstrual cycle tracking. Future versions, however, may let users check their temperature on demand.
Since smart rings lack buttons or screens, this could be triggered by specific hand gestures. The readings would then appear in the Samsung Health app.
Samsung might be also working on a way for the Galaxy Ring to differentiate between body temperature and external surfaces. The patent even suggests you could check someone else’s temperature by placing the ring on their forehead, essentially turning it into a wearable thermometer.
Another potential upgrade is notifications. The patent hints at visual, audio, or haptic alerts for abnormal readings. The first-gen Galaxy Ring lacks haptic feedback, so this could be a useful addition.
Patents don’t always lead to final products, but these features seem practical. If Samsung delivers, the Galaxy Ring 2 could be a game-changer, maybe even letting you check if your coffee is too hot before you take a sip.
