Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn has been delayed a couple of times on the road to launch, but with its release now drawn closer, developer A44 and publisher Kepler Interactive are continuing the rollout of new details and gameplay footage on the action RPG.
A new extended gameplay overview was recently released, with creative director Simon Dasan and associate art director Dale Pugh providing commentary. The video provides over nine minutes of gameplay footage, while shedding light on things such as the game’s combat, traversal mechanics, setting, and much more.
While Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is also going to feature Soulslike elements similar to A44’s debut title Ashen, it’s changing things up in a number of other ways- such as the greater emphasis being placed on mobility and traversal.
In combat, players will be using a variety of different weapons, with three different types being available to use at all times- flintlock weapons, melee weapons, and secondary weapons that will use black powder, such as rifles and grenades. Each weapon will also have different modifiers, while different weapon types will also sometimes be more effective against certain enemies- like flintlock pistols being particularly effective against undead foes.
Throughout the course of the game, players will also be setting up caravans at different spots around the world. These will serve as hubs and rest stops where you’ll be able to prepare for the trials ahead, while caravans will also grow and expand over time as you meet and recruit new characters to your cause.
Several other combat mechanics are also detailed, such as critical hits, dodges and parries, and more. One key element that players will have to keep an eye on is Priming, with each enemy having a Priming bar that you’ll have to fill up in various ways in order to be able to deal critical blows. Players will also be accompanied by Enki, a companion who will help out in combat and can be customized with different abilities.

Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is due out sometime this Summer for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
