Remco Evenepoel has been discharged from hospital after he was treated for a fractured collarbone which he sustained in a crash at Itzulia Basque Country.
“Following his crash on Thursday’s Stage 4 of Itzulia Basque Country, Remco Evenepoel underwent surgery on Saturday to the broken collarbone that he sustained in the incident,” it read.
“The surgery was carried out by Dr Steven Claes without complication, and the Belgian Champion – a winner of four races this season – has been discharged to recuperate.”
The team have not yet confirmed how long the Belgian rider will be out of action for, or when he will be able to return to training and racing.
Evenepoel issued a statement after his injuries were confirmed that his long-term plans would not be changed. His aim for at the start of the season was to make his debut at the Tour de France, which gets underway on June 29.
Several top riders were also involved in the collision, including Primoz Roglic (Bora-Hansgrohe), Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates).
