According to El Nacional, it is ‘inevitable’ that Pep Guardiola will leave Manchester City as the manager at the end of the season, and so will star striker Erling Haaland.
The Catalan news outlet has claimed that Haaland and Guardiola are not happy with each other, with Paris Saint-Germain keen on a 2026 summer deal for the Norway international striker.
The report has revealed: ‘The trigger for the break is none other than Haaland’s performance in the scenarios of maximum demand. ‘Guardiola feels that in games where City needs to circulate the ball with surgical precision, the figure of the Norwegian becomes an islet that disconnects the circuit.
‘Pep’s decisions to replace Erling at key moments of the qualifiers have been the final blow to the player’s confidence. For the coach, the team must be a coral block.
‘For its part, Haaland’s environment does not hide his discomfort.
‘The player feels that, on the nights where the Ballon d’Or is decided, the team does not accompany him and that Guardiola’s rigidity is making him smaller.
‘Erling believes that his cycle in Manchester has reached a ceiling and that the lack of freedom to play space is weighing down his progression.
‘The outbursts on the bench and the bad looks in the training of the Mancunian team confirm that the communication between the two is totally broken.
‘With this scenario, Manchester City faces a very complicated crossroads to solve.
‘The departure of one of the two is already considered inevitable to clean up the atmosphere of the group.
‘While clubs like PSG monitor every move of the Norwegian, in Manchester the idea begins to gain strength that, if Pep decides to fulfill his last year of contract, Haaland will be the sacrificed piece to finance a total restructuring of the attack.’
