Dyson’s Airwrap has become a bit of a legend in the world of home hair styling. It’s undoubtedly the most bougie, high-end hair styling kit you can buy.
You can read our review of the original Airwrap, plus Shark’s competing, but more budget-friendly FlexStyle, and see how they compare in our head-to-head review of the two multi-stylers.
But now there’s a new Airwrap in town. Read on to find out all the details.
What is the Airwrap ID?
The Airwrap ID is Dyson’s freshly-announced follow-up to the Airwrap. Like the original, it’s powered by Dyson’s V9 motor and uses hot air to curl, wave or straighten your hair, always keeping the temperature below 150°C/300°F to avoid damage.
But the Airwrap ID is also a Bluetooth-enabled device, so you can programme your hair profile into the MyDyson app and get custom settings for hair curling.
It comes with a range of new attachments, bringing the total number to 16 possible styling accessories. You won’t get all of them in a set, however: you’ll choose between a straight and wavy or curly and coily kit and receive six attachments suitable for your hair type.
It’ll be available in two colourways: ceramic patina and topaz, and vinca blue and topaz.
When will the Airwrap ID be available to buy?
At this stage, Dyson hasn’t announced a precise release date. All we know is that it’ll be available soon.
You can sign up for the Dyson newsletter in the UK or in the US to be the first to find out when it’ll be available.
What will the Airwrap ID cost?
In the UK, it’ll cost £499.99. Dyson has not confirmed the US price to us, but we expect it to be $599.99.
Where can you buy the Airwrap ID?
You be able to buy it from Dyson online in the UK and Dyson US, and from Dyson demo stores.
What features does the Airwrap ID have?
Attachments
There are three new attachments available:
- Conical barrel for more defined curls
- Wave and curl diffuser to shape natural curl pattern
- Blade concentrator for smoothing hair
But the ones you get will depend on whether you opt for the straight and wavy or curly and coily kit. Each set will come with six attachments, but you’ll be able to buy others separately to give your kit more range.
The straight and wavy kit will include:
- Conical barrel
- 40mm long barrel
- Soft smoothing brush
- Large round volumising brush
- Dryer and flyaway smoother
- Fast dryer
The coily and curly kit will include:
- Conical barrel
- Wave+curl diffuser
- Wide tooth comb
- Firm smoothing brush
- Large round volumising brush
- Fast dryer
Connected features
The key smart feature is what Dyson is calling i.d. curl. In the MyDyson app, you’ll plug in your hair type, hair length and your styling skill level, and the app will recommend a curling routine.
Accept it, and when you press the power button, the Airwrap ID will automatically wrap, style and set hair, tailoring heat and airflow to the user’s requirements.
Maintenance
The app will also help you keep your Airwrap ID in perfect condition by alerting you when it’s time to clean the filter (although a flashing light on the styler itself will deliver the same information), and providing guidance on cleaning.
We’ll update this article as soon as more information is available, and will be testing out the Airwrap ID as soon as we can. In the meantime, have a look at our round-ups of the best hair straighteners and the best hair dryers for our top hair care tech recommendations.
