Denzel Bentley stops Danny Dignum in second round – Fight night as it happened

It has been another fine night of boxing on TNT Sports and one to whet the appetite ahead of the colossal night next week.

“Nathan Heaney’s a great British champion,” Warren said on TNT Sports.

“He thinks he wasn’t right that night. [Heaney] has rematch with Brad Pauls coming up. I’d like to see this again eventually.

“I’m not taking anything away from Nathan Heaney but I wasn’t myself in that fight,” Bentley said on TNT Sports.

“I couldn’t pull the trigger. I’ve had my setbacks but I come back which shows my character.”

A stunning destruction. Dignum is caught with a straight right to the body and wilts on the floor, then is put back on the canvas with a couple of more hooks. The fight is ended with a right cross which saw his body contort awkwardly on the way down.

A slow start with Bentley landing more. He caught Dignum with a couple of nice right crosses, but had to eat a straight left from his southpaw opponent just before the bell.

The WBO International Middleweight title is on the line, as Denzel Bentley (18-3-1, 15 KOs) meets Danny Dignum (16-1-1, 9 KOs)

He takes the fight on all three scorecards 99-92, 98-93 and 98-92 to take the fight and successfully defend his title.

What an effort these two put in tonight. Dillon landing left hooks and a couple of uppercuts in close. Garner seemed to weaken as the round went on, but opted to end the fight trading shots. Dillon maybe took this round but Garner will take the fight. Garner will have to tighten his defence when he steps up in class, but both can be proud of their displays.

The blood trickling down from Garner’s eye seems to breathe new life into Dillon early on and he landed a couple of right hands, but Garner’s superior boxing came to the fore with good uppercuts in close and often in combination with his honey punch, the left hook to the body.

The fight has calmed down a bit with Dillon unable to land his right hand as Garner gained control with the jab. The cut over Garner’s left eye could have caused him difficulty if Garner caught more regularly.

One hell of a round! Dillon landed a huge left hook among a number of shots while Garner also landed his own decent shots to head and body. Definitely Dillon’s round.

Dillon lands his best right hand with a short right in close but again as the round went on Garner landed more, though Dillon again landed a sharp right with 30 seconds remaining. A cut has opened under the left eye of Garner.

Dillon tries to make it a fight in phone booth charging at Garner with an early flurry, but he rides out the storm and each left hook to the body slows Dillon down a little.A vicious left upstairs with 20 seconds remaining rocked Dillon but did not seem to deter him for long.

Dillon begins the round forcing Garner back with a flurry of shots but he can’t sustain it and Garner keeps throwing hurtful left hooks and uppercuts to the body, with one-twos upstairs bloodying his opponent’s nose. Dillon is so game and has a little more success before the bell.

As Dillon’s pace has slowed, making it easier for Garner. He really has a tremendous body shot. Dillon taking more backward steps now.

Dillon is the more aggressive, coming forward and throwing more but the better quality is coming from Garner though, especially his hooks to the body.

The WBC International super featherweight title will be contested between Ryan Garner (14-0, 8 KOs) and Liam Dillon (13-1, 3 KOs).

He takes the fight on 117-111, 116-112 (twice) to take the EBU super featherweight silver championship.

An absorbing last round with both landing quality hooks in close. They both laugh and embrace each other at the end of the round. Both raise their arms in the corner. The scoring will be interesting. You would think the easy rounds to Collins early on will give him the edge.

Collins is now winning the fight in close. He landed a good combination midway through the round, with a big left hand rocking Grandelli and forcing him backwards in the closing stages.

The pace slowed down from Grandelli, maybe saving himself for a big last six minutes. Not much in the round at all.

Collins just cannot or will not establish the jab and it is taking his advantage away. He is landing good body shots and hooks upstairs, bit the Italian is better in close. In the last minute, Collins landed more one-twos which maybe got him the round.

This is becoming an entertaining fight with both landing heavy hooks to the body and head in close. It is hard to score. Richie Woodhall has given Grandelli the last three rounds. It is better for Collins to make it a boring fight again.

After getting the rocket in the corner, Collins came out charging at his opponent and hurt him with a left hand. Brandelli laer on has some success in close, landing on the busted nose. The most entertaining round of the fight.

The two exchanging shots for the most prolonged period in the last minute of the round. Maybe the only round you might give the Italian a share of. Collins is being chastised in the corner.

Grandelli looks like he is running out of ideas – and there is a long way to go. Collins easily controlling the fight. Only just before the end up close did the Italian look at all potent.

The nose is not affecting him at present. Collins showing good character to not let it shake him out of his rhythm.

Collins’ nose is clearly broken and bleeding heavily which could be a problem later in the contest. It came from an elbow after Grandelli swung with his left. It is difficult to tell if it was deliberate. It was Collins’ round though.

A better round with Grandelli showing more ambition. He landed a very nice left uppercut midway through the round but Collins took it well. Collins is being patient and doubling up with his right jab, while waiting for a chance to throw his left hand.

Collins is forcing the fight against the slippery opponent who feinted a lot but threw little. The Scot takes the first round by virtue of his workrate.

British champion Nathaniel Collins (14-0, 7 KOs) challenges for the EBU European Silver Featherweight Title against Francesco Grandelli (18-2-2, 4 KOs).

Sharp’s record improves to 25-0 (9 KOs) after taking the contest on the referee’s card, 77-73. It will be the first round we all remember from this though.

“Don’t get stupid,” is the advice from the corner. Arce lands a left hook in the first seconds of the round, but it does not make Sharp blink. The rest of the round sees Sharp multiple straight shots with either hand. Not the fight he hoped for on his return but a valuable one perhaps.

Sharp’s best round of the fight. Landing right jabs, hooks to the body and straight lefts. His confidence is shown by flicks of his hands and a fine straight left. He received another warning for a low blow, from an attempted bolo punch.

Sharp landing multiple right hooks to the body which will sap the fight of his opponent. Sharp gets a warning for his shots slipping below the border.

The fight continuing in the same vein now. Arce still looks a live threat, with Sharp’s low hands inviting for his long left hooks, but the South Londoner is moving clear now.

Sharp dominating the fight now, mostly from the southpaw stance, with blood oozing from Arce’s nose. The Argentine’s shots do not seem to have the same bite as they did early on and as he untidily comes forward there is a lot of holding in close.

Sharp puts Arce down with a left cross early on and then landed a left hook shortly afterwards that almost put his opponent down again. After that awful first round, Sharp is now level in the fight. He has a slight cut above his right eye but it shouldn’t be a problem.

A good recovery from Sharp. Landing jabs and uppercuts and avoiding the most of the Argentine’s wild swings.

A huge long left hook from the Argentinean puts Sharp down early. His opponent is wild and looks to swing hooks with either hand with the Welling fighter against the ropes and he goes to the canvas once more. Sharp sees out the round. Can he recover for the second round?

The South London fighter (24-0,9 KOs) takes on Facunde Arce (17-14-2, 7 KOs)

‘Suga Boy’ takes the fight 79-73 on points. He will be hoping to step up in competition in his next contest. His record improves to 10-0 (5 KOs).

No sign of fatigue from Barney-Smith in the last round, upping his punch rate if anything, albeit not particularly hurting his opponent.

Barney-Smith with some nice shots with his back to the ropes in this round. A left uppercut and right hooks upstairs and downstairs particularly eye-catching.

A scrappy round that saw the referee warn both fighters. Barney-Smith winning but not really impressing.

Barney-Smith landing the cleaner blows, but it would be nice to see him commanding the centre of the ring and dominating more.

De Oliveira growing in confidence and landing left hooks to body and backing Barney-Smith against the ropes midway through the round and having another flurry near the end of the round, but Barney-Smith produces a nice three-punch combo on the bell.

More of the same, Barney-Smith dominating but not looking like stopping his opponent at present. His corner will look for him to step up the pace in the fourth.

Barney-Smith bringing his left hand into play now, especially to body, but also upstairs with a nice counter uppercut on one of the rare occasions the Brazilian threw a right hand.

‘Suga Boy’ living up to his nickname with sweet boxing with his Brazilian opponent unable to land a shot on him, while eating his southpaw jabs.

Popular super featherweight Royston ‘Suga Boy’ Barney-Smith (9-0, 5 KOs) takes on Brazilian Jonatas de Oliveira (5-12).

The easiest fight of the night to score. 60-54 for Fletcher. His record improves to 8-0 (6 KOs).

A good last round form Fletcher, finally landing a left uppercut in close and following up shots with the other hand when narrowly missing with shots. The experience of his opponent saw him able to reach the final bell.

A good right hook hurts Chvarkou midway through the round but his opponent recovers quickly and does not look like getting stopped now.

Chvarkou showing his toughness still walking after Fletcher who is more measured but lands another good left hand in the closing moments.

Mark Tibbs told his charge to set up the left uppercut in this round and while Fletcher could not land it flush he is forcing Chvarkou back now with body shots with either hand and the Belarus fighter is losing the will to engage.

With the head shots harder to land, Fletcher is intelligently aiming for the body and his right hand hooks downstairs do look painful.

Fletcher dominating with his powerful southpaw jab. Looking for an opening to throw his left hand but Chvarkou is well aware of it.

Tommy Fletcher 7-0 (6 KOS) takes on Viktor Chvarkou (5-12) in the opening contest.
