A Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis crashed while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport, flipping upside down on the snow-covered runway.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene as reports emerged that up to eight people were injured, though all passengers and crew have been accounted for.
Photos circulating online show the aircraft overturned, resting in deep snow. Officials at Toronto Pearson confirmed the incident, stating:
“Toronto Pearson is aware of an incident upon landing involving a Delta Airlines plane arriving from Minneapolis. Emergency teams are responding. All passengers and crew are accounted for.”
Most passengers safe after Toronto plane crash, say police
Constable Sarah Patten of the Peel Regional Police reassured the public that most passengers made it out safely.
“It is my understanding that most of the passengers are out and unharmed, but we’re still trying to make sure, so we’re still on scene investigating,” she said.
At this stage, authorities haven’t confirmed what caused the crash, and the investigation is ongoing.
Airport officials and Delta Air Lines are expected to release more details as they determine what led to the crash. For now, passengers at Toronto Pearson should check for possible flight disruptions as emergency crews continue their work at the site.
The good news is that everyone on board has been accounted for, but for those involved, it was surely a terrifying experience.
