While Bloober Team has had many titles under its belts, including last year’s stellar Silent Hill 2 remake, the studio is now getting ready to release its biggest new IP yet – Cronos: The New Dawn. In an interview with Polish publication PAP Business, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno spoke about the studio’s plans for the future, and what it has in store for Cronos: The New Dawn once the game is finally out later this week.
In the interview, Babieno spoke about how, while the studio doesn’t yet have any plans for a sequel to Cronos: The New Dawn, there has seemingly been interest from outside in further expanding the game’s universe. He revealed that there have been companies from Hollywood, including streaming companies, expressing interest in a possible adaptation.
“We are definitely seeing interest from various partners, the biggest companies in Hollywood, who have approached us, both movie giants and streaming giants, who would like to collaborate with Bloober on the Cronos Universe,” he said (via DeepL).
As for what’s next for Bloober Team if not a sequel to Cronos: The New Dawn, Babieno spoke about having already started pre-production work on a new title, which will once again be “a very big game” that falls in line with the studio’s current strategy, where every subsequent release is bigger than the last.
“The next big step for Bloober Team will be to reach even further, to an even larger target group,” said Babieno. “The title we are currently working on, as we have already started its pre-production, will be a very big game in line with our strategy, which assumes that each subsequent first-party project should be bigger. Due to its assumptions, this game will be a milestone for Bloober.”
This, Babieno noted, is helped by the fact that Bloober Team is a specialised studio that focuses on a certain genre, and every title it makes and releases then helps with the development of future titles thanks to the workflow, technology and knowledge being passed on. Thanks to this, the studio is able to tap into its past experiences quite well when it comes to newer projects.
“We are a vertical developer, i.e., one that has its own specialization, and everything we have learned before, both in terms of workflow, technology, and gameplay, is reflected in subsequent projects,” explained Babieno. “Thanks to the fact that we have developed a lot of solutions in the production process, whether it be Silent Hill 2 or Cronos, our new project will draw heavily on our previous experience and will not have to be any longer or more expensive in terms of development compared to what we are already doing. That’s the advantage of specializing in gamedev.”
The general future of Bloober Team has seemingly been quite secure thanks to this specialisation, according to Babieno, who noted that the studio is “no longer just fighting for the money of consumers who are able to spend large amounts on games,” since there are plenty of free-to-play games in the market. Rather, the studio wants to offer unique experiences that you can’t get anywhere else.
“However, the most important thing is that we have to offer a unique experience,” he said. “An experience that social networks don’t offer, that no game, streaming series or anything else in the leisure industry offers. The key to success is that we have unique content,” he pointed out.”
Cronos: The New Dawn is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on September 5. For more details about the upcoming horror title, check out our review. Also check out why the studio isn’t worried about the title coming out in the same week as the highly-anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong.
