BT’s country operations manager for Ireland Carol Connolly will be taking over as country host starting this September.
After a decade at the helm, Shay Walsh will be stepping down from his role as managing director and country host of BT Ireland, the company announced today (13 August).
Replacing his role as country host is Carol Connolly, BT’s country operations manager for Ireland. Connolly is set to take over leadership at the company’s Irish operations from 1 September.
“I would like to thank Shay for his outstanding contribution to BT. A 29-year veteran of the business, he has been instrumental in shaping the culture and reputation of the Irish operation, with his commitment to responsible business initiatives leaving an indelible mark,” said Chet Patel, the managing director of portfolio business at BT.
“Over the past 18 months, Shay’s leadership has helped guide the business through major change and position it for future success. I am pleased that Carol Connolly will take on the role of country host – her deep knowledge of the business and strong leadership credentials make her well placed to lead the next phase.”
The transition comes as the UK-headquartered global telecommunications giant is making changes to better align with its international strategy, the company said, including by divesting a number of its business units.
In February, BT Ireland sold its wholesale and enterprise business units to Irish telecommunications company Speed Fibre Group. Although, the company continues to maintain a strong presence in Ireland, with more than 400 employees based in Dublin and regionally.
Earlier this year, BT announced that it was stepping down as the title sponsor and organiser of the Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, after 25 years in the role. The company said the decision was due to its business re-alignment strategy.
The title sponsor spot was soon taken over by Stripe co-founders Patrick and John Collison. The sibling pair were once themselves a part of the student science contest.
