Bloodborne Might Not Get a New Game Because the Director is Too Busy – Former PlayStation Boss

While rumours and speculation for a potential remaster or sequel to one of FromSoftware’s most critically-acclaimed titles, Bloodborne, have been swirling around for quite some time now, both Sony and FromSoftware have been quiet about the game. Former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida believes that the reason for the lack of any new Bloodborne-related announcement might just be a lack of time.

In a recent episode of the Kinda Funny Gamescast, Yoshida mentions that, while he doesn’t know what the situation surrounding Bloodborne is, the lack of any new announcement or game might just come down to the fact that Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki might just not have the time to work on it.

“I have only my personal theory to that situation,” explained Yoshida in the interview, which you can watch below. “I left first party so I don’t know what’s going on, but my theory is… Miyazaki-san really loved Bloodborne, you know, what he created. So I think he is interested but he’s so successful and he’s so busy, so he… cannot do it himself, but he does not want anyone else to touch it.”

Yoshida also stated that, since PlayStation has avoided bringing it up because it wants to respect Miyazaki’s wishes. “So that’s my guess, theory,” said Yoshida. “I am not revealing any secret information, just to be clear.”

Back in 2024, Miyazaki had also spoken about Bloodborne, and how important the IP was to FromSoftware. However, Miyazaki also mentioned that just having new hardware wasn’t the be-all and end-all reason to make a new game, and that accessibility would be a bigger concern.

Interestingly, in an interview with IGN from back in 2024, Miyazaki also indicated that, while he would love to work on a new Bloodborne title, the ball might not be in FromSoftware’s hands. In the interview, Miyazaki stated that FromSoftware doesn’t own the IP, and that the studio isn’t at liberty to talk about the game.

“Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically,” he said. “We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it. I’m very sorry about that.”

Miyazaki had also indicated that it’s not up to him for Bloodborne to get ported to PC, and indicated that saying he wants it to happen would get him in trouble. “I know for a fact these guys want a Bloodborne PC port,” he said in an interview with PCGamer last year. “If I say I want one, I’ll get in trouble as well. But it’s nothing I’m opposed to.”

Rumours from October have indicated that a new title related to Bloodborne might be in the works. Details on this title, however, are scarce, and we don’t yet know if it will be a remaster, a remake, a sequel, or if it even exists in the first place.

The last time we got to see anything related to Bloodborne was in Astro Bot, where references to the game were included as part of a celebration of PlayStation titles.

Currently, Bloodborne is only available on the PS4. PS5 players can play the game through backwards compatibility. Here are our thoughts for why we might never get a PS5 remake or remaster of Bloodborne.
