Battlefield 6 Multiplayer Gameplay Revealed, Out for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 10

EA, along with developers DICE, Ripple Effect and Criterion, took to the stage to finally unveil details about the multiplayer gameplay for Battlefield 6. During the showcase, the companies unveiled a host of things, while also confirming that Battlefield 6 is coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 10. To unveil all of the details, three trailers have been released that you can check out below.

The first of the three gave us a look at some general multiplayer gameplay for various aspects of the game. Ranging from gameplay as a regular soldier equipped with weapons to taking control of epic machines of war like tanks, jets and other vehicles, Battlefield 6 will feature the modern style of warfare that has been popular for the franchise since Battlefield 3 amd 4. Along with this, the trailer also showcases its environmental destruction.

Along with the things we might be used to thanks to previous games in the franchise, like taking out walls to flank opponents, Battlefield 6 will also allow players to target floors and ceilings, opening the way for new tactical opportunities. One of the examples shown in the showcase was taking out the floor if there are enemies on the floor above you to then climb up the rubble and take them down while they’re still stunned.

When it comes to one of the core gameplay systems behind Battlefield 6 – its class system and how it interacts with combat and destruction – the upcoming shooter will feature the classic four classes that players are already used to: Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon. The returning class system is also described as allowing players plenty of options for customisation depending on how they like to play.

The new signature weapon set, for example, is designed to make classes feel unique depending on their role in combat. The Assault class, for example, is a frontline soldier. As such, the class has signature weapons like grenade launchers, as well as access to tools like flashbang grenades to quickly breach rooms in close-quarters combat. Engineers, on the other hand, are designed to be the anti-vehicle class. Equipped with rockets, mines and other explosives, Engineers excel at taking out opposing vehicles while also supporting allies by repairing their vehicles.

As for where all of these battles will take place, Battlefield 6 will have quite a bit of variety, ranging from maps designed for close-quarters combat with infantry in mind, to large-scale warfare maps that make heavy use of vehicles, both land-based and aerial. The maps will pull from real-world locations from all across the world, including Egypt, Gibraltar, Tajikistan, and even the streets of Brooklyn, US. These maps all have different level designs to help promote different styles of gameplay.

For example, Gibraltar is described as having smaller, urban areas that encourage close-quarters combat. Egypt, on the other hand, makes use of land vehicles. Tajikistan has been described by the developers as being “all about scale”, with all sorts of vehicles and tools available for players to make use of when the battle finally breaks out. And finally, Brooklyn is designed to offer a mix of all of the gameplay styles. The maps have been designed to be able to be sliced up into smaller layouts called “combat zones”. The choice of combat zones for any given map comes down to what game mode is currently being played.

The game modes that will be available in Battlefield 6 at launch will be Conquest, Breakthrough and Rush as the core modes, along with smaller-scale game modes like Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, King of the Hill, and Escalation. More maps, modes and events are also in development in the form of post-launch content.

Finally, Portal is also returning in Battlefield 6 in a more powerful form. Players can make use of an updated toolset to create in-depth experiences that other players can also check out. Portal is also getting a “verified” mode, which allows players to make custom game modes for multiplayer, including a hardcore mode with one-shot kills, for example. Playing in verified modes will also allow players to maintain their progression, unlocking new weapons and equipment as they go along.

Along with all of this, EA has also confirmed Battlefield 6: Phantom Edition, which includes four Phantom Squad soldier skins, the BF Pro Token Battle Pass along with 25 tiers worth of skips and exclusive unlocks, the Shrouded Weapon Package, the Drop Shadow Weapon Package, the Glimmer Melee Weapon Skin, the Chimera Vehicle Skin, the Death’s Head Weapon Sticker, a Weapon Charm and Dog Tag, and the Phantom XP Boost Set.

The base edition of Battlefield 6 is priced at $69.99, while the Phantom Edition is priced at $99.99. A single-player campaign has also been confirmed for a game. More details, however, will be revealed later.
